In any case, i've found the solution to be Predator. Considering SGM's rather bonkers weapon damage system (reintroduces the problem present since SoC where damage values shown don't correspond entirely to damage done), Predator is a bastion of order.

    Edited:

SGM is easy as fuck, what are you saying
Once you move up the ladder of stuff into exo territory.

    Edited:

And if you don't enable Alpha squads and extra mutants.

I've unloaded about 400 rounds into this Alpha Squad guy in Iron Forest, can someone tell me if he's going to die soon? :\

Edit: Spoke much, much too soon. I decided to lob a grenade at him and see if it helped.

It helped alright, killed him in a single blast.

As terribly broken as they are both in Clear Sky and CoP, you have to admit that you don't really have to aim to use it effectively at medium and close range.

It's good but the dialogue can feel a little weird cause it doesn't seem quite translated properly. I also found the book a little gamey when they're mentioning Sunrise suits and things directly from the game.

I guess it's Misery time again...

August 7, 2012. I have located all helicopters here in the marshlands. I am going to leave for the Jupiter Factory but before that I want to ask the local merchant if he has any jobs for me. And indeed he has. He wants me to retrieve info from a mercenary outpost. I accept since the pay might be decent.

I leave the ship at first light

Considering the location of the Water Treatment Plant, approaching it from the Preobrazhensky Bridge might give me good sniping locations. The mercenaries of the Zone are seasoned fighters so I need all the advantage I can possibly get.

Passing Noah's barge. I was going to say hello to that crazy old coot but decided not to in case he has gone off his rocker again and gives me a two-barrel salute through the door

The bridge comes to view. It is a glorious sight to behold as rays of sunlight seep through the trees behind it

Approaching the base of the bridge I find an old service ladder I can use to get myself up on the bridge

The bridge indeed gives me an excellent vantage point. Now let's just hope my marksman skills are still up to snuff

Unfortunately the guard sneezes just as I pull the trigger and the bullet whizzes past his head, shattering a brick behind him. The guards nearby start to move closer to flush me out of my sniping position. These mercs sure were not born yesterday.

The nearest guards try to rush out of the hole in the perimeter fence but thankfully my trigger finger was fast and my aim true

Jam! Damnit, I could very well be killed because of a malfuntion like this. Better relocate and hope they can't find out my new position as fast

Circling to the other side, I try to spy a new firing position

I come to the conclusion that a horrible position like this will just get me killed in even slightly prolonged firefight. Best just to shoot whoever I can and come back later today.

I see one of the merc leaders but my AK jams again and the mercenary retreats inside

These fellows were not so lucky

Seeing as my ammunition is running out, I head back to Skadovsk to pick up better gear to deal with the remaining mercenaries.

They're accurate enough once upgraded, and the amount of bullets makes up for the not-so-pinpoint accuracy.

1280x1024 and 1024x768, in both the gun simply does what pistols in CS vanilla do i.e. zoom in but no ironsight, with the difference of the crosshair being disabled as normal in ironsight mode.

Isn't the side handle for swapping out the barrel in case it overheats ? At least that's how it is with the 12.7 NSV machineguns (or ITKK 96 for finns)

Yeah, that's what I thought as well. I wasn't trained on the PKM, so I never observed how they're field-stripped or how the barrel is changed. I never saw people holding them from there while firing during exercises, that's for certain.

EDIT: Yeah, that handle is for changing the barrel.

Pretty sure it is like the M240 in that if you are shooting it from anything other than the bipod, you aren't actually using the iron sights. (EDIT: Yes I am aware that the M240 is perfectly usable from the standing position, but for anything other than basically single shots, you aren't going to get shit for accuracy while standing, especially while remaining even remotely mobile.)

Medium machine guns are one of the few weapons that are occasionally fired from the hip.

So what you are seeing is the odd hybrid of the stance you would take if you were firing it from a standing position, and how you would fire it from a bi-pod.

Which, I agree, looks ridiculous. The gun should only even be usable with an exoskeleton.

That'd be unrealistic as hell since LMG's don't even demand that much of upper body strength to wield.

However, I think that maybe aiming down the PKM's sights with an exo equipped or having taken a Hercules, weapon sway decreases drastically, making it more viable as a short-medium range assault weapon.
