Anyway, to get into the merc base the first time you need to have both the password from Black's PDA and the merc suit from the USS stash (or off the body of a merc, if you have looting suits from bodies enabled). After the first time you can use any armour, though.

More importantly than any of these quest shenanigans, the merc trader sells four new weapons (off the top of my head, FN FAL para, P90, XM8 and something else. Not sure about armour.) A point of note is that the RDS on the P90 doesn't work (there's no red dot), and it's designed to be used with the crosshair enabled, as hid crosshair on aim is set to false.

Which version of SGM? Are you following any specific instructions, or are you just trying what you think will work?

I'm using SGM 2.0, and I'm installing SGM, then absolute texture packs and atmosfear, then the patch to make them work like the instructions say to do, though it always crashes.

Me, because they OHK Chimeras, but aiming with them was a crapshoot in SGM before anyway, so I doubt you've made it much worse.

If you could do a version for the MP-5 Octopus as well (I think it uses the MP5 model from Lurk 1.1, so you might just be able to copy paste the stats across, that'd be cool.

To be honest, I don't think they were "bad", just doing a job. And that's another thing what I love about Stalker : There aren't clear "good" or "bad" guys. Regular stalkers are generally understood as being the "good" guys but a lot of them do really morally questionable things while trying to get by. There are groups of outright assholes but none of the factions is inherently evil just so that we could blow them away without feeling guilty about it and no faction is presented as valiant knights of justice that could do no wrong.

So, guys. I've been following STALKER and heard some stuff from my friends about it for a while. I'm also considering getting a gaming computer, although the hardest part is financing. I get the feeling this is another thread entirely, but what is a pretty decent, pretty cheap computer that could run this game (and a few others)?

all the stalker games will run fairly well on 2gb of RAM, bear in mind that you need to make them large address aware if you want them to even use more than 2gb

get a decent graphics card, though. something midrange.

You don't need much to play stalker. 3-4gb of ram is plenty enough, I'm not sure about the graphic cards/cpu/everything else though

Yeah, honestly, there are no black and whites in the Zone (except Jackal in SGM and in Misery, where there's only brown), only shades of grey. Why Mercs are ever seen as bad guys is beyond me, because they're actually pretty cool. Hell, there's Hatchet and his boys. Frankly, they're not only extreme badasses with some of the best names (Pianist, Mower, Oak, Mug, Goblin) but they're pretty nice guys to boot. And then there's Mercenary Scar, the biggest badass of them all, along with Leshiy and Hog. The fact that you have guys that are willing to risk their lives in a place like the Zone to get money (through working for the highest bidder) is enough for me to say I respect them.
