Eh, I have to give them credit for the design on the new ones. Just like Sonic they're easy to draw which means all the kids (and spergs) everywhere can doodle them to their heart's content. They're also easy to animate quickly whilst keeping the general look of the show intact which means they save a lot in animation expenses when making episodes.
Plus the abstraction isn't that horrible. You can easily see that they're supposed to be some sort of horse-esque quadrupeds.

That's not to say that I'm not sick and tired of them already. The "art" of drawing ponies is just as stale as drawing sonic stuff. There's no innovation in it anymore because it's so easy to stick to a formula.

Especially the stock "sideways shot" pose. It's practically a fucking decorate-it-yourself template.

It's actually instructional. They put that there so that she knows to put her head there, just like the blanket with a picture of someone laying down and the desk with a picture of somebody doing a striptease.
