Made some character changes to Shepard in the launch trailer thread

HOLY FUCKING SHIT, this comic predicted the future
Your choices are meaningless, and everythings going to blow up anyway

I don't care how bad the ending may be, that trailer has convinced me that the game itself will be so incredible that I can just shove the ending away and pretend like it never happened.
Well, just watched Gamespot's 25 minute Palaven demo and a couple of things bothered me. First was that the guy playing wasn't very good. Second, and more importantly, Shepard appears to do a LOT of speaking without the player's input. Easily 60-70% of his dialogue is done by the game without you having any control whatsoever.
I don't like that.
Is there a link I could get to that?
Does contain some minor spoilers, so be warned. The stream starts at about 4 minutes in.
Could be playing in action mode possably?
Definitely not. Dialogue trees are present, albeit barely.
I don't see why it matters that Shepard has some preset lines, its a game that has a set narrative and set characters. I'm only like 8 minutes in, but what could he have really said that would have had a choice or two?
You and a lot of other people want Shepard to develop as a character, or say he's not human enough. There you go, you lose your sense of control a bit so that he may develop.
Yes, that's exactly what I wanted, a RPG where my character can't pick his dialogue.
That sense of control you're talking about is one of the very few things that separated Mass Effect from being just another shooter (albeit one with a good story).
And that very true, but in the end, if people want him to develop or gain personality of his own outside of our choices, some dialogue has to be his in the end.
It works both ways, giving us more control makes him less himself, and vice-versa.
I guess you could say the dialogue choices should do that too,
Well, that's the thing though; Shepard never really had a set personality, and that's how it was supposed to be in order to make Shepard feel like your own. What we asked for was the ability for Shepard to finally say what HE feels, a la Lair of the Shadow Broker's dialogue. What we're getting is a disturbingly defined personality.
I'm not going to jump to conclusions until I'm actually playing the thing, but that video is troublesome.
I don't know than, I guess they wanted to develop him a bit more, and I honestly for the most part agree with you, but I suppose I'm not minding too much because his own dialogue seems to be that of a sort of neutral ground.
I think the real trouble with the video to be honest is this guy, I feel like I'm watching a bad youtube let's play. He actually makes it seem unfun.
Since im about to preorder and this is probably a make or break decision, does the standard edition come with from ashes?
Does it bother anyone else that they're re-using the helmet from ME2? The helmet in ME1 looked SO much more realistic.
no pointless glass going up the side, etc etc
No. :(
I was pretty worried about auto-dialogue shep from the demo, but I wasn't sure if the full game would be that bad.
On shepard being more emotional: people complained about Shepard's DELIVERY of lines being flat. There's no reason why we can't have the same amount of dialogue options as always and just have the lines acted with better emotion. Forcing shepard into a "canon" personality would be disastrous to role playing for a lot people.
Any information on from ashes that it is essentially just a new squadmate with dialog like zaeed or is it actually more then one mission.
Exactly. Quite a few lines in there are not what I would choose. Especially the "Can it wait a bit Joker, I'm in the middle of a warzone!"
My Shepard wouldn't do that.
Okay now that I'm getting more into the video you're right its becoming more aggressive than it was neutral.
I have no idea what kind of design choice this is
I believe it's just the one mission.
What the hell, you don't even choose which squad-mate to go back to the Normandy.
This b gay
I just knew they would use that song in the launch trailer. I would have been disappointed if they didn't really.
Everything looked better in ME1. Bluer too. Even the greens had a certain blue quality to them.
Yeah, what the hell was that? Liara opts to go back to the ship and Shepard automatically chooses her.
I know right.
So apparently Casey Hudson recently confirmed that even Action mode will still have some conversation choices. So, maybe that's what we're looking at here.
Guess we won't know until we're playing the game.
mass effect is a pretty hard game to screw up
just do what you did before but make it better and continue the plot
that's all anyone is asking for.
Hopefully
He could be referring to Normandy dialogue? I mean, I don't see how action mode is even possible while on the Normandy, but I think it seems pretty clear cut in combat missions.
Edit: Still watching through, the guy goes into the menu. Under conversation mode, he already has it set to "full decisions."
Launch trailer was decent, got to see Jack which is nice. Was hoping for something other than TSFH, but again it did the job. Not a bad trailer, at least we got a launch trailer. I was afraid they'd stick with the live action trailer.
I'm almost positive that's what this is. Action mode likely cuts out the smaller conversation choices but leaves a few behind.
it seems the demo was canned action mode, no matter what
In the video he goes to gameplay options and its set to 'full conversations'

I just want to see Tali again.

What is this:
That's stupid release date should not mean preload date.
Just watched the new trailer, my paragon/renegade/paragade imports are ready to go..
I'm excited! Only 4 days left 'till launch!
I went to order the scientist salarian shirt and, of course, both that shirt and the Legion shirt are out of stock for every size but small and xxl![]()
I know I'm a bit late on this, but give me a break I was at work.
Does anyone else have a massive cleanup to do after watching that trailer. 1:47. Holy shit.
Watching that trailer all I can think to myself (after the initial shock and awe) is, "... fuck, how important is the Destiny Ascension's presence/lack of presence going to be?"
It's a dreadnought, so it should be pretty important. That being said it is Bioware's writing staff, it could mean fucking nothing other than another pretty light in a cutscene.
