Both my desktops are black screens because if I use a backround it goes away after I restart.

I use a pair of old 1280x1024 monitors, it gives a comfortable amount of desktop space.

Mines pretty simple. An Aperture logo can go a long ways. Also there's a lot of shortcuts. Those too.
