We don't have either anymore. We never had democracy, and now we have a semi-capitalist system. The rich get socialism (government subsidies, bailouts, legal tax loopholes) and the poor/middle class get capitalism.

For the record, I'm not actually a hardline capitalist, and I don't favor capitalism over communism. I play devil's advocate, but more than that recognize that every side has its advantages and disadvantages.

I dunno about that. The rich get to enjoy (largely) hands-off operation of their industries, with minimal responsibility to the government through tax, while the poor use socialistic government institutions like Medicaid and welfare. We use a mix of both systems for all people.
