I just watched Forces spéciales, it's an action film about TEERWUN FRENCH OPERATORRZ
first part of the movie was pretty fucking ninja tactical badassery but then it degenerates into COWWADOOTY TACTIC FUBAR

That's silly. You're silly. It's not 1940 anymore. Stop making stupid jokes about how the French always surrender. They pretty much fought to the death during the First Indochina War. They also spearheaded the aerial operations over Libya last year.

The French were a first class army during the first world war. And even during the second. The only reason France surrendered to the Nazis was because Philippe Petain wanted to avoid the complete annihilation of and entire generation like there was in WW1.

Also, Les Chevaliers du Ciel is an amazing movie. The aerial photography is spectacular and filmed with real Mirage 2000s and AlphaJets. There are like, 30 minutes of flying scenes in this movie, compared to Top Gun's five.
And it doesn't have the homoerotic vibe that Top Gun has, lol.

Ironically, at the beginning of WW2 the French actually had much better tanks than the Germans did.

Well, a recent turn of events around the world is proving that the French are perfectly capable of waging war. I mean, I know where you guys are coming from with the jokes, but really, they've become kind of blatantly disrespectful.
I personally was never around when you guys were all chill about making jokes about another country's military and how incompetent they were, but if I was I would have said something. Sure, call me uptight, but it's just not morally right to make comments about the fighting prowess of another country's armed forces, especially when each and every individual in their forces is putting their lives on the line in one way or another and defending their rights and beliefs.
French soldiers know that people all around the world are making fun of what their ancestors and predecessors did during WWII. They're trying their best to turn that stereotype around. How would you like it if you were a frontline soldier and people that weren't even serving their own country and just dressed up like soldiers and played with replica guns were joking about how in the event of a battle, you would run away and or surrender judging by your nationality and the country you were serving? Especially if you're putting in extra effort to perform well in combat?
You need to think beyond "hahaha its funny because I'm joking" and realize that people from all armed forces of all nations should be respected for their service.

I am totally aware of videos like this where the French actually fight. But god damn people don't be so uptight about silly jokes everybody makes. I used to be uptight about the "Canada has no army" jokes but I dropped it because I know no harm isn't meant by it and it's not trying to be offensive, just like France jokes.

Uh, what's changed? I'm serious. The French beat the English bloody in the Hundred Years' War, they almost conquered Europe under Napoleon, they managed to beat the Germans back in WW1 through sheer bloody attrition, and then because their country was ravaged and pillaged in WW1 they got steamrolled in WW2 and were never allowed to live it down, despite having the third highest military expenditure in the world today.
I was never really big on French military jokes, I guess it comes with being a military history nerd.

I have always loved the System Shock games, both of them. They are absolutely fantastic in their own ways (as the two are very different). If you haven't played through SS1 yet it's definitely worth a try.
