I kinda like the skycrane idea. do we do the curiosity throttle up and cut the payload

    or land and disconnect?
When I made mine I just kept the throttle on 15% or so which still means you are descending at around 1m/s and just before you touchdown you decouple the skycrane and it fly's off and you gently touch down.

    then

not perfect but it did the job

Just make a VTOL with stock parts and send it to minmus, then fly it with a joystick and search for monoliths.

Wasn't really supposed to land this on the moon. Never thought it would make it, I assumed the legs would break and the whole thing would fall over. But it didn't

In the VAB (without rocket), images are hyperlinks to craft file download

I would have liked to have a longer strut between the rover and the skycrane but couldn't find a part that would do the job.

how plausible would it be to use the landing gear or ladder modules to create a fold-out staircase?

I wish someone would make a proper Apollo LEM now. It should be possible to make it really good now with the folding legs and ladders and stuff. (And EVA's).

The Kerbollo one was great, but I don't think the author is going to be interested in improving it

The Katurn V is currently my main rocket. This thing can carry over a 20 ton payload into orbit, can get to the Mun with plenty of fuel to spare, and enough fuel for a return trip. I havent tried a minmus trip yet, but I would assume it can, as I often jettison the deceleration and transit tank with 1/4 fuel left. In this configuration the payload is a munar lander, and its not the heaviest thing it can carry. For larger payloads I usually attach a few SRB's to boost the first stage and conserve fuel for the upper stages.

It has a really cool slow takeoff.

Its currently what I have been using to ferry supplies up to the spacedock

    Saw the new planets, and thought that even though it has been quite a bit since minmus got added, and I STILL hadn't landed on it;
just rendevous and mun landings (and one accidental 60million meter solar orbit).
So I scrapped my old designs, because recently they've begun to be more difficult to keep together during take-off due to extreme weight + thrust solely from bottom.
Made a nice new one, and sent it right over. I had enough fuel to land with the intermediate stage even, but I landed the lander as well.
    Enough talk, picture!

I just had a look at the apparent radius of Kerbin.
It's tiny in comparison to Earth, or even Pluto. It's round about the size of Charon.

I wonder if any of the planets will be earth sized with a similar gravity and atmosphere.

I'd love to make real rockets that are 1:1 in scale and power.

Well I managed to alleviate my lag when looking at the ground a little, there was some option ticked which I hadn't meant to leave ticked (terrain scatters or something). I still get a drop, but 20fps is better than 5

I'm sorry, do you expect me to remove my standards from my brain based on what others don't have?

"Sorry dear, this steak wasn't vey good, but I won't complain, because some people are having to eat boots"

Obviously I'm happy to be able to play the game as well as I can, but that doesn't mean I shouldn' be allowed to find ways to make my experience even better.

    Edited:
Plus I think you got the tone of that post wrong. It wasn't
"look at me, I'm so great, I can look at kerbin with a huge 20 FPS"

    more

"I've pretty much fixed the problem I was having, so you needn't post any more suggestions"

It's supposed to be a loop that plays in the VAB or Spaceplane Hanger.

I reckon we should have one that is insanely rocky with shitloads of steep canyons with a REALLY thick gaseous atmosphere that you can't see through from orbit, so you have no fucking clue where to land on the first go, gives rovers an actual use.
