a 2JZ swap would be illegal as fuck here.

Uhh....what? What kind of backwards place do you live in where someone can't swap a different engine into their own car? My state doesn't give two shits what's under my hood as long as it spews less HC, CO and NOx than the law specifies.

For Radar detectors, keep a look on these two sites:

Dont get this one, apparently it sucks.

like the other two said, denmark, but either way... a 2JZ is a bit big for the AE86 I believe...

    Denmark: Taxland Electric Boogaloo.
You two should move out then. I can't imagine what sort of backwards logic Denmark's government used to outlaw engine swaps, but it sounds like hell on earth to me.

Maybe I'm a bit spoiled though, I live in the land where the right to put a V8 in anything with four wheels is more secure than the right to basic healthcare.
    a 2JZ is a bit big for the AE86 I believe...

I've seen 427ci Chev big blocks stuffed into Fieros, LS9s in Miatas, a fucking Rolls Royce Merlin in a '57 Chevy. Gearheads do not let common physics contraints prevent the installation of their desired engine in their desired car, they WILL find a way to fit impractically large engines in tiny cars.

If it was my AE86 I wouldn't do a 2JZ though. Too many people use them in imports. I'd either use a Turbo II 2.2L Dodge I4, a turbocharged Ford 2300 I4 from an SVO Mustang, or perhaps an LS9 V8 if I want to be a blasphemous son-of-a-bitch that can create smokescreens on command with their right foot.

I've been considering moving to sweden... but then I might not even be able to afford driving the AE86, considering I'd have to live by myself.

also I love the 2JZ, don't care if it's common, it has a reaaaally nice sound, and it can be built reaaaally fast.

With an N/A 22RE you should be able to get 35MPG combined out of it no problem, so it's not like it'd kill you at the pump. Not sure about insurance though, and Europe does some strange shit with regards to that.

Some of them sound nice. Some of them can't be heard over the racket of the helicopter engine some people insist on strapping onto them.

I will admit that V8 swaps are just as commonplace, though.

thing is I'd have to get a house, insurance for everything, buy everyday shit... etc

an ae86 isn't exactly cheap for an 18 year old to have in any way, they go 12km/liter, insurance is expensive as fuck on it...

I suppose if everyone drives little economical sedans/hatches. But for anything fun to drive, 28MPG is
generally great mileage. Hell, my 4 banger truck got like 18-19mpg.

So this is playing out too good.

So my 88' is now completely fucked. My front brakes are completely shot and today when we tried to replace them, we found out that all of my wheels are seized on. So, no new brakes, or new wheels. Good-bye car!

So now I have my parents willing to pitch in some money for me to buy another car. Looks like I'll be getting either a Tahoe, Explorer, or Expedition.

    Fuck yea!

lol, it's wonderful mileage. Most cars get around 20-25 combined, and any that I can actually drive get between 16 and 18.

28MPG is economy car territory. Low end, admittedly, but still economy car territory. You're only going to do better with some dull little supermini with a gokart engine in it, or a motorcycle.

not sure how that equates to MPG, but my rex was making 13 off the showroom floor in '87. I figure I'm probably getting somewhere around 11-10 now. I guess it's still an improvement over the 5 i was getting in my 77 Chevy :P

well that's why I'm saying if I move I probably wont be able to afford it, as of right now I live with my parents... so I'll be making quite some dosh once I'm done with the school part of my auto class or whatever you'd call it..
