Yeah, I think it's odd how we don't really use any guns we designed. The M16's design was stolen by H&K, the SAW is FN, the SCAR is FN, Berettas are Italian, etc. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head American is the M24, which is essentially a hunting rifle with some neat things stuck onto it.

Colt stole the M16's design from H&K. Don't quote me on that though, just heard it on some documentary. I actually didn't know we still used the M2.

I thought the M2 was still mounted on humvees and armored vehicles, as well as on navy boats and aircraft, unless FN are producing those too?
ArmaLite would be the original designers, Colt bought a license to produce M16s and all the variants from them, i think.
So unless Mr. Stoner stole the design from H&K then it's an US design.

I have no idea any more. Again, my info was based on something I heard an old guy say on TV. I think you're right about the M2, I looked it up and I can find some pretty recent pics showing M2s mounted on things.
