thanks for the link mate, feel real enlightened now.
I should bloody well hope so, I don't copy and paste because I like the sound of my own keyboard
Nice work! but it looks rather muddy, it would help to use more confident and harder/darker brush strokes.
Still I like the cactus one
And a protip if you're going to post this on DeviantArt:
Adding eyes onto anything, pageviews and dozens of favourites guaranteed.
its not for the RA comic, im just tired of drawing deers.
What about Zee Captain?
Pilot reminds me a lot of Psycho Mantis
I dont really like the captain :/
I was never aiming to make it actual pixel art. That's why it's comprised primarily of sharpie width lines.
As for the half grid border, that was because the sharpie line looked quite poor, but a full grid thickness was too overwhelming.
I am planning to continue exploring this style, so I'll take that on board though.
Thanks for the tips, art teacher once said that to me too, I just can't get it right with confident shading :/
Just some very rough WIP I'm working on

it's almost like you treat humans as hard surface
he's standing very awkwardly, it's almost like he's not properly proportioned too.
Sorry for the immensely unrefined image. I created this pose from imagination so i'm quite happy with it (there is probably a ton of anatomical errors) but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to emphasize the gesture. He's going to wield a shield in the direction hes facing while holding a sword in the other hand. At the moment he looks like a ballerina though. I want to give some power to the shield holding hand.
looks like he's tripping over.
confidently tripping over face first
Hmm i'm going to make his right foot flatter to the ground, thanks
Well, I'm not pretty sure about proportions, but as for me, his pose is quite natural.
At least, I often stand like that :D
the balloon says light is coming from the top left
but the cactus says light is coming from the top right
no wonder they're not hugging
Balloon is transparent, reflections reflect upon the other side inside the balloon.

Well here is another webcam progress shot, I really hope I can get access to one of the school's cameras so I can properly show off the values as this webcam just blends my light grays with my whites. I also can't wait until I get to college so I can start using oils instead of acrylics, there is nothing wrong with acrylics as a medium, it is just I prefer the way oil blends.
2 hours of total work time, acrylic on 8x12 canvas, no ref.

sorry, I couldnt remember how far you had gotten
No worries!
I like this a lot
Don't know if this has been stated but, I am really confused as to where the light source is. According to that railing the light is coming from the upper right yet at the same time the left side of her is fully lit.
I really need help on something.
See, every time I write a small story or so forth, there is always something you guys point out that I never seem to notice. Yes I go through it two to three times to make sure.
What's the best way for me to find my own mistakes?
You'll never spot every mistake without feedback from outside.
But flipping the image (horizontal and/or vertical) will help you spot mistakes you normally wouldn't. You can also put it down for a few hours or even a day and look back on it with fresh eyes.
didnt he ask about writing help?
I'm not very good at reading reversed text =[
