I said it seems hipster, meaning it comes off to me as more of trend because it's cool to listen to vinyl instead of practicality. I am not calling anyone here a hipster, but I do get tired of a lot of hipsters grabbing their favorite indie bands on vinyl from their underground music stores. I don't see the point is what I am saying, what is the point? The answer that I keep on hearing is that there is something special in the way it crackles and such, and maybe some sort of satisfaction from finding the right spot on the record with the needle and flipping sides after it is done. I think a lot of the old bands would have completely dropped vinyl if they got their hands on the technology we have today, why would they be in favor of an outdated format when they can make their music much more clear and closer to the original recording then they ever could with vinyl?
mmmh, not necessarily. I've always found (especially on vinyl that was mastered and produced ect on all-analogue equipment) that vinyl sounds a lot more natural in terms of sound. Personally crackle is something I try to reduce, by the way.
I suppose you have a bit of a point about it becoming trendy, frankly that's hard to deny - but trust me, there are myriad other reasons why people still buy vinyl apart from trendiness/nostalgia.
(As a really good example of the difference in sound/mastering quality, I suggest listening to a pre-80's album on vinyl, then on a recent CD remaster)
Compared to digital I hear a major difference in audio quality in vinyl and I'm a person who tends to not really pay attention, notice, or really care about audio quality.
I quite care about sound quality and I notice a big difference.
However a few of my mates have record players too but have them hooked up to things like guitar amps and then I think there's no point in bothering with vinyl. I actually find it hard to listen to, especially if I take some music round theirs that I've already listened to. It sounds really snobby and it kind of is.
Just ordered this on 180 gram vinyl. It should come in tomorrow.
fuckin white stripes mang
I'm ready for a new vinyl. Thinking about Sublime or System of a Down, what do you guys think? I really need 40oz to Freedom Robbin' the Hood, and Second Hand Smoke; but I dont have ANY system vinyl so tough call.
Edit: oh man, all of these are at least 40$.
I like SOAD because they're funny. But I think Sublime and SOAD are two of the most juvenile bands ever. I don't really see a point in owning SOAD on Vinyl. I can kind of understand Sublime, but not SOAD.
the point is it does sound better on vinyl, because it is purely analog and truly lossless
not really lossless if they degrade after being overplayed with crap styluses.
people nowadays have a weird obsession with days gone by and all the old fashion out-moded ways. especially things that carry this sort of "authenticity" or "classic" aura. my second hand copy of Blue has someone's name written on it and seeing that mark of the previous owner makes me happy for some reason. I think it's kind of interesting to think of, and I try to go further than saying "lol hipsters"
i think lol hipsters when people buy lots of records but don't actually listen to them.
There's no point in buying them if you're not going to bother listening to them
I really can't see where your coming from saying there juvenile; sure they're funny, but does that make them juvenile. I don't know, just my opinion.
They're funny because they are juvenile.
Edited:
Oh wait, I mean: I think they are funny because I think they are juvenile.
although if you have a quality stylus you can look forward to decades and decades of use. tbh wearing out grooves is very rare, nothing to bother with unless you A:are listening to the same records for hours at a time every day forever. I mean, even if you've got loads of really early vinyl (late 40's/early 50's era) you shouldn't really have to worry. Shellac is a whole different kettle of fish but I doubt FP has many people who actually own records that old
well turntables are pretty much at "perfect" level of playing the format. now with laser turntables and all.
laser turnatbles are a needless expense unless you really do own loads of fragile old shellac records though. The damage incurred from a well-balanced and adjusted tonearm with a decent stylus is negligable (unless you're playing eighty year old 78's as i said)
This just came in
theres 4 more EPs coming from the UK but havent been delivered yet for months :(((
Thinking of getting that on Vinyl, but I have WhiteBloodCells, Elephant, GetBehindMeSatan and IckyThump all on CD, doesn't go well with my OCD.......... :3
What's your favourite White Stripes album btw?
It's heeere~
The sleeve is very nice too, pretty thick cardboard.
The self album is probably my favorite, (the one I just got). It's almost got all my favorite songs right on it; (IE; Jimmy The Exploder, St. James' Hospital Blues, Sugar Never Tasted So Good, Astro, Stop Breaking Down, etc.) though I love all the songs, the whole album is brilliant. Second in line is probably White Blood Cells.
Get this on vinyl, man. Is nice. :3
Red and White Swirlyyyyyyyyyy![]()
I added a couple of extra speaker
coki sounds evil through it
I have untrue, I want to get Kindred
It took a while because of 2 bad presses, I pre-ordered it with Untrue, Burial and Street Halo.
Is it me or does Best Buy's website have a bunch of really excellent deals on vinyl
i noticed that when i got a gift card over christmas. didn't get any because i wanted some movies and prefer rifling through cartons of records at the local store
well don't use a crap stylus? lol
Edited:
the quality of the vinyl itself is very very questionable, but it's pretty funny how some of the vinyl records are actually cheaper than the CDs
Edited:
to some people there is. it's just having a physical product. you're no better than a hipster if you think you are better than because you listen to your records when they don't.
well I did lie a bit, it really depends on the type and shape of needle.
edit: derp
I don't think I'm better for using it, but I don't see the point in buying music if it's not being listened to. It's kinda sad like old toys still in their packet that no one played with. I've never been bothered about buying rare records that haven't been played because I'm only going to play them myself.
I think the point of contention is people who buy vinyl as a status symbol rather than for the music/any particular affinity with the format.
I don't normally care unless they're being badly stored.
Pre-ordered the new OFF! LP, comes out in a month or 2.
Got the white vinyl version, not sure if there are other versions.
what's the point in buying statues or paintings if you can't "use" them? It's for collection and for a physical manifestation of something one likes. same reason people buy box copies of games when the digital copies are exactly the same

off is good but come on get some actual black flag first dumb idiot
When did he say he didn't have any?
I know njit, he doesn't have any
haha okay, then yeah; but more importantly, does he have any Circle Jerks or Dead Kennedys?
nope he sucks
i think hes talking about people buy vinyl without owning turntables/vinyl player or even knowing some1 who does.
I dont own turntables yet but a classmate from highschool does and i sometimes visit his studio.
Dead Kennedys especially are annoyingly expensive around these parts, I haven't seen a single album go for under £18. I mean, it's not completely ridiculous, but when I could snag a Tom Waits album for the same price it's hard to keep the enthusiasm
