Could always just use a 3d modeling program to make the tree instead of using brushes.

It looks really low poly.
I'd suggest loading up a tree model for R&L and looking at how they did theirs, then try to emulate it.
You need more 'tris'. I'd suggest making each branch sections shorter, then dragging the vertexes in and out to make it look more natural and less box like. As well, make a "Branches" texture to place along the upper tree branches, it will make it look a lot more natural.

Still pretty new to Hammer even though I have 46 hours in it, so here's a few screenshots from the map I started working on yesterday.
About an hour or two after starting, I came up with this.
Day1
Maybe about an hour ago, I completed much more than I had expected to do when I first started making the map.

Around 10 minutes ago, I had messed with light_environment to make it a little darker to make it more like night while making the ambient light a little more noticeable. I am satisfied with the results. I still feel like I could make it better.

Since then, I've also fixed the light entities to blend in more with the light_environment settings which isn't noticeable in the screenshots.
Any criticisms?

Right now, it just looks really bland. There's nothing that catches the eye, or any interesting colors. CS:S is probably the worst engine to make a city in, there's not really any good city content (excluding assault). I'd suggest finding some way to add some variety to the textures, walls and floors, like stains, graffiti, vents, etc.
What game do people use with map creation in Hammer? Specifically the best one to use, if there is a best one to use.

i got carried away and did lighting and texturing and all sorts of stuff lol
i think i'm going to develop the surface more before i create the actual metro, because the metro will mean modeling huts and stuff and ugh i don't want to even think about it

by create the metro i mean put content in it so its a bustling metro like in 2033 rather than an empty underground metro
I have the CSGO beta, but I can't seem to access the content through Source SDK. Is there something I need to do to get it there?
CSGO has its own Authoring tools, check for it in the tools tab.

The outside lighting actually looks good. Your brushwork is okay. I'd suggest adding a lot more to fill in the overall bland look of the map. I suggest large unenterable skyscrapers. an mountains in the distance.
I can see a lot of tiling on that wall. This might be on of those times where you should make your own gigantic texture to tile! :D
I make my own textures when nothing else seems to fit.
Disable the shadows on that sign. Everything else looks alright for now.
