Many thanks to xcloudx01 for telling me what to do :).
The only problem occurred when I imported the animation in SFM - nothing happened. My Heavy got bent in a weird angle and his bullet strap was moving but my imported animation was nowhere to be seen. I moved Heavy's animation channel, I exported his animation as a Skeletal Animation, I plotted the animation in MotionBuilder. So what was I doing wrong?

did you make sure to only select the head, body, arms, legs and fingers when you imported the dmx?

I thought I was supposed to select Body, arms, legs and fingers. Not the head. At least that's what xcloudx01 said in his tutorial. But it was working before. I didn't do anything differently.

Ok, I remade the animation and it worked.

Ok, so I made the Heavy swing an axe by parenting it to his hand. Exported it as a DMX and applied it on the Heavy, then he started swinging around just like I wanted, but then I did the same with the axe. It didn't move at all. It just changed its position like in Motionbuilder when I just imported it. Wasn't it supposed to move along with Heavy's hand?
When I was importing it, it accepted only one bone: weapon_bone. I guess that was right. So what isn't right?

EDIT: And now Maya doesn't even let me import or export FBX files.

As far as parenting, unfortunately I don't think parenting it in motion builder or maya also parents it in the sfm. however, you should be able to just import the axe and the heavy's animations then just use the built in "animator" and match the model with his hands. as for maya not letting you import or export fbx i had the same problem i fixed it by going into my plugins manager and made sure fbxmaya.mll was checked and loaded. hope this helps :)

Really? Enabling the plugins for Maya 2009 constantly make it crash. What version are you using?

Where do I copy the scripts to? I remember doing this once a long while ago, but I can't remember them now. Also, do the plugins work with 64 bit versions of Maya?

Put the scripts in your C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Maya2012\scripts. And no it does not work with 64 bit maya, atleast 2012.

Ugh, I have a 64 bit version of 2012, and the vsMaster.mll causes some temp file error related crash in Maya 2009 32 bit.

    Time to try 2011.

The fuck. Maya 2011 crashes too. This has got to be a problem on my end or I'm doing something wrong...

Step 0: Put scripts in C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Maya2011\scripts
Step 1: Run Maya from runmaya.bat in maya/2011 folder in the SourceSDK files.
    Step 2: Enable plugins.
    Step 3: Crash.

Goddammit. Am I missing something here?

I have the honor of helping the SFM god :D

    Umm...
This is how I did it:
    Step 0: blahblah:\STEAM\steamapps\weirdo2255\sourcesdk\may a\4.5\scripts to C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Maya2011\scripts
Step 0.5: Oh crap! I remembered that I copied the plugins from blahblah:\STEAM\steamapps\weirdo2255\sourcesdk\may a\2011\plug-ins to C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Maya2011\bin\plug-ins
Step 1: Run Maya from runmaya.bat in maya/2011 folder
Step 2: Go to the plugins settings, tick auto-load
    Step 3: Restart Maya
Step 4: Check if the plugins are loaded
Step 5: There is no step 5

    It worked for me.

First solution: Delete your prefs in Derek/Documents/Maya/ and restart your computer
Second solution(mostly works for me): Log off and Log on again.

I don't think so. That's a really general error. I'd get it time and time again when working on school related stuff in the year, but it happens every time I enable that one plugin, so it's gotta be something else.

Holy pootis! Everything worked!! I'm forever grateful to xcloudx01! For further generations who would still be using the leaked yet "legally" obtained SFM(atleast I hope so), I'll write a tutorial.
    Here it is:

How to bring parented items from Motionbuilder/3DS Max into Source Filmmaker

This tutorial will only cover getting parented props into SFM. Nothing else.

Before you start. Necessary stuff and why the hell they are needed:
    3DS Max 2011 - Baking the animation
Maya 2011 - Exporting the DMX
    MotionBuilder 2011 - Animating
Source Filmmaker - Why do you think?
Source SDK - Maya plug-ins and decompiled models
MDL Decompiler - To decompile props
    3DS Max Baking script: http://www.2shared.com/file/eM-amgYI/Ani_Baked.html
    3DS Max SMD Import/Export plugins

    What to do:

Exporting your model's animation. Follow these tutorials on Rigging and Exporting to Maya and SFM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpO_rzJU4AU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC-5B_hI5dQ
    1. Decompile the item you want your character to hold.
    2. Import the Reference SMD in Maya and Export it as an FBX file.
    3. Open it along with your Character in MotionBuilder and animate!
3.1. The object usually has two bones: smd_mesh and weapon_bone. Parent the smd_mesh to the limb you want and then parent weapon_bone to smd_mesh. This is very important!
    4. Plot your character and object.
    5. Do a "Motion File Export".
    6. Open [yourclass]_reference.ma in /steamapps/sourcesdk_content/tf/modelsrc/[yourclass]/ in Maya.
    7. While in Maya, Import your FBX file and resize the timeline.
    8. Export your animation to a DMX file and make sure you make it a skeletal animation.

Exporting your object's animation. MAKE SURE YOUR BONE'S NAME IS THE SAME AS IN SFM. IF NOT, RENAME IT!
    1. Import your Motion File (FBX) into 3DS Max.
    2. Find your parented bone(in my case, weapon_bone), select it and run the ani_baked script. This can be done by pressing MAXScript->Run script and then the ani_baked script.
    3. Make sure your bone is selected and "Export Selected" to an SMD file. Select "Sequence SMD".
    4. Open your decompiled object's SMD reference SMD file in Max (Make sure it's a new scene, not the old one), and import your previously exported SMD file. Your object should start moving.
    5. Export everything to an FBX file and check "Bake Animation"
    6. Open your FBX file in Maya.
    7. Export it as a DMX file. Once again, it must be a skeletal animation.
    8. Spawn the object you animated in SFM using the "Create animation set"

    And you're done! Have fun!
If you have any questions, PM me or post it in this thread.
If I missed any steps, tell me.

YES! I fucking love you. Was able to enable and successfully export a DMX file! Thank you!

Now, to get my SFM working again with all the proper configs, maps and textures.

Also, I'm so glad people are still using and editing the Wiki. I get an email every time someone does something to it because it was originally started by me, and every time I smile lol.

Well, my SFM was working for a bit, then I tried to run it after I moved over the modern maps and texture and ran Metroid's script to change the version, and now SFM just crashes on start up. Anyone have any tips to fix this before I delete everything and try again?
