I just got into the beta and made this short thing, mostly as a test.
Smooth the camera, there's way too much jitter

    Are those working cube/specular/whatevermaps?

Also I think a scale tool would be helpful for some cases.

When I try to install SFM it stays in the "Preparing to install" window for a while and then ends up displaying a screen saying that an error occurred while installing (Connection timeout).

    Can anyone help me out?

Can anybody tell me how to add hats/miscs to TF2 characters? I like to use Source Filmmaker to make videos, but I can also see it being used to test out hat/misc combinations (because itemtest is broken and bugged)

Basically, lock a hat onto a character's head and use the zero tab to lock it onto the head.
If you're using a character with a pre-set hat, just right-click the model and change the body type until they're hatless.

I do it by keyframing in the graph editor.

Hmm, I'm thinking about using the graph editor for animating too. The other methods just seem a little unrefined.

Once you get used to it, animating stuff in the motion editor isn't bad.

There's an enhanced one pre-compiled for SFM up at MaxofS2D's website.

I definitely prefer the motion editor over the graph editor. Just seems cleaner.

It's called motion capture. Someone else was asking about the possibility of using Kinect for that very purpose, but I think it got shot down. Once the Source Filmmaker gets matures a bit, I'm sure someone will find a way to get mocap of some kind working with it.

Does anyone know how to freeze particle effects in mid-air, like in this video?

Setting the particle system's time-scale to 0 or 0.0001 etc doesn't work, and I can't set the entire shot to time-scale 0 because I need the camera to animate...

I was going to ask if it was made with the source recorder instead of SFM, since it looks like it coulda been, but reading the description reveals it was SFM.

The description also mentions "OrangeL89," who was the guy that taught the author of the video you posted how to freeze time in SFM. Try contacting either one of them if you can, see what they can tell ya.

If ya find out, post it here. I'm interested in how he did it as well.

I already contacted him on the Steam forums cause he's trying to achieve the same effect. He made the video above using an older version of the SFM, and now it's in beta a lot has changed and we can't work out how to do it. Sucks!
