I've recently started watching this brilliant show from the reboot. (the ninth doctor) I'm currently at season 4 episode 13.

Are the original episodes (Doctors 1 to 8) worth watching? To quote the OP "After a poor TV movie in 1996 the show returned with a bang in 2005. You can start from here and not miss much, but that's not to say the older episodes aren't worth a look either." Does that mean it's just some backstory you could read online (   the Master   ) or are the episodes themselves good?

    Thanks.

There are some really good serials from the classic series, but they're not all good. If I were you I'd watch all the regeneration serials (except maybe the one that's are missing) and some highlights from each doctor. I'd recommend:

First Doctor - The Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Reign of Terror, The Chase, The Tenth Planet
Second Doctor - The Mind Robbers, The Invasion, The War Games
Third Doctor - Spearhead From Space, The Three Doctors, Frontier In Space, Planet of the Daleks, Planet of the Spiders
Fourth Doctor - Robot, Genesis of the Daleks, The Pyramids of Mars, The Robots of Death, Logopolis
Fifth Doctor - Castrovalva, The Visitation, The Five Doctors, The Caves of Androzani
Sixth Doctor - The Twin Dilemma, Attack of the Cybermen, Revelation of the Daleks, The Two Doctors
Seventh Doctor - Time and the Rani, Remembrance of the Daleks, Battlefield, Survival

The first Second Doctor serial is completely missing, and the Sixth Doctor didn't have his "own" regeneration serial, as Colin Baker was fired. The Six->Seven regeneration happens at the start of Time and the Rani.

And you may as well watch the 1996 TV movie (eigth doctor's only on-screen appearance), as it establishes a bit more continuity.

He says he's around 1200 in A Town Called Mercy, but as far as i know there went a LONG time between Manhattan and Snowmen.

    Probably worth a mention:

If the #DoctorWho 50th special(s) doesn't feature at least one past Doctor I think I'll genuinely cry
