Well the original plan for me was to buy a new graphics card or something but then my cousin showed me the Alienware computer and suggested I should buy one that was like 800 dollars or so with my work money. Then my dad said if I gave him my work money, he would chip that in with his and my mom's money to buy me a more expensive one but then in the end they just put their money together to buy me one for Christmas

Well the main reason was to play games I couldn't before (Pretty much all games). Now that I have so many Steam friends I'm glad I got it so I can play games with them

Well the thing with alienware is that it costs like 50 bazillion dollars more than it should and so I always wonder why people buy it instead of cheaper prebuilts or, you know, building their own PC.

Yeah even my dad suggested that but I'm not very bright with that stuff or what parts would of been needed

That's the main issue most people seem to have, they are kind of "scared" of building their own PC, while in reality there aren't many ways to mess up, just following (good) tutorials on Youtube or having someone [your dad] to ask will be more than enough for anyone to manage. Of course I'm sure youre happy with your alienware as it is, as those machines are by no means bad ;)
