I'm pretty sure they've announced the entire cast.

My guess is    The season ends with Theon taking Winterfell, the Stark children escaping and Theon preparing making a final stand against the Northerners. Then Ramsay is introduced at the start of Season 3

It's quite a "holy shit!" to learn that Theon is Lily Allen's Brother.

Well the Winter is Coming blog posted a while back that the last shot of the season - or it may have just been the last one they shot, but I'm pretty sure they said it was the last scene - showed (Book/season 2)   Bran and some others leaving Winterfell. I think we'll see all of that stuff this season.

Yeah, I noticed that too.    I just don't see how they're gonna do it without having Ramsey sacking Winterfell.

Nancy dewolf of wall street journal shares her thoughts:

For those among us who instinctively recoil at the sight of leather jerkins, cut throats and castle keeps, "Games" may take some getting used to. But the cinematography, like the cast of largely British and Irish actors, is magnificent. Each week the story unfolds like a tapestry, its intricate stitches slowly creating not just a scene but a whole world. It's a world to get lost in, but not always easy to endure. Because the good die as often as the bad, and happy endings are only for fairy tales.

I'm told that the series gets significantly worse about halfway through the third book? Is this true?

I think that it's probably (major fucking spoiler)   The Red Wedding    that makes them say it got worse, though I'd argue that it got very interesting past that point. It could also be on how he manages to get so many characters in that he can't go too much into depth for each one and had to split up a few characters sections between a few books, and has a few withheld bits as he honestly can't get it all in at once. You've got people in the Eyrie, King's Landing, Winterfell, Dreadfort, the Wall, Pentos, Mereen, Dorne, Highgarden, Braavos, Old Town and there are people out on the field in between places, which is why the books slow down a bit as you go along, due to the characters.

In my experience it's been the exact opposite. It just keeps getting better and better.

that's just people getting REALLY mad at a certain event that happens, the last half of A Storm of Swords is the high point of the series, the exec producers/writers of the TV show said if they get up to that certain event then they'll be proud of what they've done

From what I've heard the latest book is really uneventful. Like it's more of a filler compared to the others.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Roose Bolton, you see him very briefly in the character feature for Robb Stark.

    Major book 2 spoilers ahead:

I'm wondering what they're gonna do about Ramsay Bolton and the sacking of Winterfell, seeing as he hasn't been cast.
Maybe save it for season 3?

Yeah, I'm nearing the end of Feast for Crows and the story has kind of ground to a halt. Cersei spends most of her chapters complaining and not liking other people, as does Jaime, Brienne is just walking around and Samwell is just on a boat. There's some interesting things happening with the Greyjoy, Martell and Arya chapters though.

Actually yeah, I've just read past the point where    she gets Loras killed by sending him to take Dragonstone   , which was pretty clever.

He was doused in boiling oil, or have I been missing something through all of this?
Hang on, is he still fine? Did they pull a Renley and send in someone who was his size in his armour?

Sure his status is never confirmed, but Cersei and Margaery both were told he was doused in oil.

All the news coming from Dragonstone are from Tyrells or people controlled by the Tyrells. There is no guarantee it went down the way they said at all. It's possible Margaery was not told the truth in case the messenger or raven would get caught. For all we know they could be saving Loras to be Margaery's champion in trial.

Hasn't sidereel gone legit now? - Like no outside links where you don't have to pay?

I used to use it, but now it seems like there's only amazon links, and other shit like that.

Maureen Ryan with a great review:

Martin's books take what could be generic ideas about morality and honor and make them compelling through very specific and individual dilemmas and concerns. There are wars, love affairs, surprising reversals and a persistent, powerful but unpredictable magic that continually asserts itself at key moments. Through it all, knotty questions are constantly asked of kings, servants, mercenaries and outcasts: At what point do you draw a line and assert that someone else's actions are wrong? When do you risk everything you have to fight what you've decided is evil? How do you even decide what evil is? What ideas and relationships are worth fighting for, and when is discretion the better part of valor?

There are no easy answers, but as it gains mastery in its depiction of Martin's complex and compassionate saga, "Game of Thrones" is doing an increasingly satisfying job of exploring those questions.

No other TV series feels worthy of a DVD purchase at full retail price.
