I sold it for $625 with a camera backpack. Not bad considering they cost $650 new. But damn man I am really bummed out.

Well, after many years of using my faithful little Sony A200 I finally got my replacement!. Upgraded to the Sony SLT-a77!
I'm probably going to take my a200 in and get the infrared filter removed off the sensor so I can use it as infrared camera.
Now time to save up for a tilt-and-shift lens. That's the only thing I don't have. I recently got mirror lens so that base is covered.

Anyone know if there is a way to make a D3000 focus after a timer instead of before? I'm experimenting with selfies and such, and I can't use an IR remote, so I'm stuck with using the timer, but it's really difficult to get the autofocus right when at f/1.8 and trying to manual focus it requires a lot of guess work and trial and error.

focus it on the area you're going to stand and move it back, frame, turn to mf and timer

The new thing on the camera is the new viewfinder, also called the Servo EE Finder.
Basicly gives the camera shutter priority functionality.
Pretty pointless because i already have a Canon EF, T70 and T90 that have this functionality built in though. But yeah, i just bought it because i can and it looks cool as hell

Got a Zenit ET but its got a bit of rust and the leatherette is a bit dodgy which means its time for another, CommunistWolf is useless at camera DIY .
Also what colour leatherette should I use

My uncle was into photography when he was in college and a bit afterward. After chatting with him while we scanned some photos I took he told me about Jeff Bridges and his wide-lux. He just gave me a call saying that he had invested into a sprocket rocket, and I guess he's hinting that we should hang out and take pictures with it once he gets it. Kind of a family building thing as we barely converse. Pretty cheap too.

Promaster gear seems alright for sub-$100 everything, pretty much. Filters, tripods, memory cards etc.

Been using the 7400 (I think) for over a year with a 5d fully loaded and it's usably sturdy. It's definitely not a luxury, but it works.

Wondering if I should get the 55-200 nikon af-s vr. I like landscape and natural photography, and capturing subjects in the city but want to stay away from them.

55 is too tight, particularly on a crop sensor. 55-250 would be a good solution for covering that range, in addition to something wider.

i like long lenses for landscape, but they require more of a subject to not feel cramped. like bopie said, you want to try and get something on the wider spectrum as well. i've found wide lenses to be better overall, and long ones for when there's something i really plan on taking a photo of

I am looking for one or two extra flashguns which I can use when I have a shoot on location.
Don't really want to spend a lot of money and get two 430EX II's or whatever but I just want some decent flashguns that I can use with an umbrella or softbox.
Any tips?

I don't have experience with this specific product, but I've bought a follow focus and a battery grip from them and they're pretty decent for the price. Shipping takes a while though since they're from China, but if you search the product number on eBay I'm sure you could find them shipped closer.

but all weather =/= waterproof
which brings me to wishing i had the $1.6k to grab a (entry level) housing for my 5d2.
my mom has a neat little olympus digital that'll go underwater, though.

Hey guys,
A friend of mine is studying graphic design and wants to buy a DSLR. He's currently looking at the D7000. I don't think his budget can stretch further than a new D7000 but he's a student so wants to spend as little as possible. Do you think he should get a new one or a second hand one with maybe an extra lens?
Also, he said he's going to be using it for casual use and maybe with his graphic design work, so do you think the D7000 might be an overkill?

well the d5100 will get similar image quality, and since he is just coming into photography he probably wouldn't even appreciate the expanded controls anyways.
i'd say a nex 5n is a good starting place (though this is just my suggestion, feel free to disagree if you'd like) because of the live view function and being able to view your exposure. it really helps with learning your camera, and i think for his graphic design it would be good because of being able to set exactly as he wants before taking the image. it has the same sensor as the d7000, so raw quality between the two will be very similar.
but for dslr route i'd say at most a d5100.
