canon for it being brand new and the battery grip is prolly a piece of shit considering you need to use a cable for it etc
Yeah I think im gonna go for the 600d, Because I like having lots of buttons on the back, Plus the video capability's on it are fantastic.

I dont know where to buy it from though. I was thinking of getting it on ebay due to the cheap price

Did you buy it from the digitalrev online store or the ebay? Because its much cheaper on ebay buy I fear i might get charged extortionate customs.

I had a D3100 and I loved it but always felt I really wanted to be able to use lenses without motors to autofocus. That and a few other things, I just felt like I really wanted a "prosumer" body. Weighed my options and ended up picking up a D90 refurbished for $735 through B&H.

My dad is buying my D3100 so he will have a camera for when we make our trip to canada in a week or so. Everyone is happy. I'm loving my D90 too. Fantastically solid camera.

Yes, but not neccesarily a original Canon brand lens hood. JJC brand or any other generic hood with flocking in it will do just fine as well.

Picked up these two lenses from craigslist the other day -

Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4 in perfect condition (bought it along with the pentax camera it was originally mounted to for $50.) Thinking about selling this one considering the condition and their worth.

    and a Sigma 50mm f/1.4

nabbed for $350 (retails for $450) in flawless condition. My first big purchase for a lens.

I see them hover around $100 on ebay, so that's what I'm hoping for. For example here is one (in worse condition than mine) with a current bid of $89 - http://bit.ly/MQnttM

You should sell the takumar, not much of a purpose while having the sigma. It's a good lens but you have the same focal length and speed from the sigma, which is optimized to be used wide open. The takumar is more for f2/2.8.

People like m42 lenses because they easily adapt to EOS bodies (as well as mirrorless), as well as low alternative price and quirkiness. But they won't outperform modern optical designs

I would suggest testing the sigma properly. Sigma is known for its god awful quality control so lots of lenses they produce don't focus properly. My sigma 30mm f1.4 didn't focus properly but I could adjust it with the in-body micro-adjust

It seems to focus fine, though I have noticed some chromatic aberration. Here is a test shot I took -

I would say get a 600D (or a 550D if you don't want the flip out screen, but the 550D is EOL though), not a 650D. Only difference of the 650D is a touchscreen and improved AF in moviemode. Does not justify the pricedifference imho.

depends on what you want really

if you were planning to get a 600d you could instead get a 550d, they're pretty similar

Its only a difference of £20-£30 so Im just going to get the 600d because I can see the tilt lcd coming in handy. I hate it when people say stuff like "get x instead of y" after i planned getting x for so long. It really puts me off and makes me paranoid thinking x is really bad in comparison to y. Thanks for the help guys

    I will stick with the 600d :D

oh right, last time i looked at prices the difference between a 550d and a 600d was ~£70, but hey, that was a while ago

if it's about 20 quid then yeah, might as well get the tilting screen for a little extra money

Oh shit, I just realised what I said could be taken the wrong way. When I said about the "x is better than y" thing, I wasn't referring to what you said. I meant the guy that told me to get 650d over 600d.

anyway, I can get the 600d with a 18-55mm kit lens for £458, and the 550d for £430, so Im just going to pay a little extra and get the 600d

600d is a good investment if canon is the route you want to go. i would not recommend the 650d over it at all, it's pretty much just a sandbox camera

What price would you guys say a 8 month old Pentax K-r with all original items and its 18-55mm kit lens would go for? Camera's in good condition, same with lens.

I have some money, so I want to upgrade to a K-5 now.

I just got a flash off of Ebay, a SB-900. It works really nice from just playing with it but I still need to read the manual to understand the modes. It's in pretty much pristine condition too for a second hand flash.

It's unlikely given the price of them.

    Maybe Jaanus could afford one.

Okay, I am trying to make a decision right now: My K-r has been great for me, but I've been wanting to upgrade to the K-5 lately for an overall upgrade (WR, full viewfinder, quiet shutter, IQ/detail 16mp, better build, better controls, metal body). I know why I want it, but I don't know if I need it.

My K-r isn't exactly hindering me, although I have been slightly disappointed with the detail in several shots lately, and I would like a better viewfinder. Other than that, no real issues.

Do you guys think it's worth it, upgrading to the K-5? I'd sell my K-r and its kit lens in the process to help get a better lens and the K-5. For Pentax glass I have an old Sears 50mm f1.7, a Asahi 85-210mm, 18-55 DA L (kit), and the DA 55-200 (hate it, probably sell it too)

I am also asking this because I wonder if Pentax will release a new higher-end DSLR eventually to replace the K-5. If I was going from a cheap P&S this would be a no-brainer like Jookia haha.

The k-5 is a pretty incredible camera, as far as aps-c goes its about the best you will get. The weather sealing is amazing, and the sensor detail and dynamic ranger best most cameras including full frame. I'd say you have some legitimate reasons to upgrade, namely the viewfinder issue. I'd say go for it, though I don't know the price difference. Even if Pentax replaces the k-5, it's still an incredible camera.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I was thinking. I only really see praise for the camera online. I've been missing the LED screen on top of the body that my *ist DL used to have, but my K-r doesn't as well haha.

The K-5 is only $850 for the body right now, and I should be able to sell my K-r with kit lens for around $550-600.

So then, I've decided that K-5 is the way I'll go! I'll list my K-r for sale right away. Oh, another thing I forgot is that the K-5 really beats my camera (or the K-30) in battery life, which is another large factor.
