Not really, wheels arent really designed for any type of pavement, only because there is bad pavement, and there is good pavement, but on the good pavement there are grippy wheels (for downhill n such) and there are slidey (buttery, icey etc.. Freeride) and acouple other wheels in between

My friend and I are planning on building our own decks, primarily for downhill and a little carving. We have the design and materials down, but we need suggestions on trucks and wheels to use.
If you need it, our info is as follows:
Him: 6' 2", 140Lbs
Me: 5' 2" , 105Lbs

I've been thinking of picking up Longboarding for a while now. Used to skate for a few years and I snowboard so it would be good practice and a decent means of transport, if someone can recommend me something it would be great.
Height: 5'8"
Age: 18
Weight: ~10stone (~150lbs)
Preferred Style: Cruising, Downhill.
Topography of where you plan to skate: Southeast England. A fair mix of hilly and flat areas, many gentle slopes.
Budget: £200-£300

Starting to get the hang of sliding now.
I got some good road rash on my back from getting thrown off the board doing a FS slide.

Well here is a bit of information that I was told when a friend and I were building ours.
You can't go wrong with randalls/paris as if it is youre first as they are cheap but also can be taken to a more advanced setup. If you have a problem with carviness and feel of the trucks it's nothing that bushings can't try and help.
You may want to get this verified by other members to be sure that this is still a true statement.
I have a similar ish board. 9.5w and 36l bidirectional drop-through. No concave however it flexes to my weight. With randalls and I have had no problem with them other than pivot cup squeaking.

The Randals are the only trucks I have that feel safe on the Noodlespoon. I'm gonna miss the stability/carvyness.

Did a huge backflip trying to do a toeside slide today, good job i wear a pretty decent helmet!
Any tips for doing toeside slides? I've kinda got the hang of heelside.

Commit everytime. Leaning back as much as possible my have you rub up the pavement but you will rarely get table topped. It takes a bit of practice to find your sweet spot but you'll get it. It took a lot of me going ass over tee kettle to get 10ft toeside standup checks.

Are there any specific tips to assist learning to skate switch? Coz everytime I try, I just feel so awkwardly uncomfortable that I end up switching back to regular.

riding switch more, you'll get used to it eventually. Just think about how you stand regularly weight distribution wise than try to mimic that switch.

I tried riding switch and dancing on the Evo today.
Haha, that shit doesn't work out on an Evo.
I got the Noodle set up today after I found my angled risers.
It finally feels right. The front has most of the turning, the rear outside wheel doesn't rise off the ground during the slightest turns, and it doesn't "shudder" like it used to.

You would speed check much easier than on a longboard.

Its half the pop and half the drag, they happen at the same time
it mostly just takes time like 10 12 hours straight of poping
What really helped for me is putting white tape on the end where my draging foot lands, helps tell you to drag more
also watch videos on how to do it

Well I just meant riding around for transport rather than a board dedicated to bombing hills. However I want it to be more hill oriented rather than flat-land oriented.
And the hills vary, there are some I can get to that are like 40degrees+ and some that are a lot less steep. About 10-20degrees.
I'm just looking for a board that I can use to get around on easy but also ride some fairly intense hills on.

Well 'getting around' usually implys wanting to do some freeride, maybe something like a downhill freeride board

It's an okay freeride board but definitely too expensive.

Which one would you recommend for sliding and just general usage? I'm pretty much just looking for a excellent all round board.

I had the dervish for a good portion of my career, it was my first board, its terrible for freeride and freestyle, dance its pretty good, but it has camber, no w, hardly any tails, and is flexy.
If you are looking to do more freeride which is sliding n such, you'll want a board that has concave, and definitely get some W going. The new Lifelong Seeker is out, its 160 dollars which is relatively cheap, and perfect for Freeride and Freestyle. The W is Amazing. It also has nice kicks for your basic freestyle
The dervish is terrible for freeride.

Viscious where you plan to place your feet, mob grip or whatever skateboard grip is in the middle so you can slide your foot on those parts and stop before you hit the parts where your feet rest which is pretty much towards the end of the board.

Yeah, they got a good bunch of set up choices , i would advise getting paris 180s trucks, and Orangatang Orange Baluts(NOTHING BUT ORANGE), and Abec 5 Bearings are fine
you'll also need some bushing, right now i have venom bushing, which are good for freeride because they are soft, not really downhill though,
