Killing Otis was not justified.
Also, if Otis hadn't shot Carl, they never would have found the farm, and they could have gone to the fort not knowing that it was overrun, and then they'd all be dead. They also wouldn't have found Sophia (eventually), leading the mother to be an even bigger whiny cunt.

Yeah, Otis shooting Carl was an accident and then not only did Otis lead them to the farm so Carl could be treated but he lead Shane out to get medical supplies. Shane shooting Otis in the leg then disarming him was nothing less than a betrayal.
I can really see things starting to turn out like they did in the comic though. I suspect it's headed toward a big confrontation between Shane and Rick, possibly with a walker attack on the farm before or after, I mean Shane wants them to stay there and he's willing to fight for it and on top of that he's turning foul towards Rick just like in the comics.

interestingly enough, all of the next episode synopsis's mention shane is doing something except for the last one and the last one looks like its going to be the attack on the farm. "Rick and Carl find the farm in jeopardy; the group is split up in the chaos; Rick's leadership is questioned"

I'm pretty sure Otis wasn't shooting Shane like these other guys did. Shane COULD have tried to continue with Otis, but he decided to be selfish and do it the easy way. As for Rick, he had no choice .
And like Simski (and Andrea) says, his intentions ARE good, but his approach is just too extreme

Can the comic people just make a separate thread to discuss it? It's nice of the people to put (comic) before their spoilers but not everybody does it and some people don't spoiler at all revealing stuff unintentionally and it's pretty annoying. Even things like "oh it's not like the comic I hope it happens that way" ruins a lot of it.
Also to those below and throughout the thread that bitch constantly about how things are different than the comic and therefore it's inferior, why does that even matter?

It's just that Andrea is nothing like that in the comics, she agrees with Rick more than anyone in the comics. She's nowhere near as stupid in the comics either. The thing I hate most out of everything in the show is how they took her character and ruined it.

Rick will kill Shane, it's why they're starting to build a better relationship between Shane and Carl. Shane's death by Rick's hands will lead Carl further down into a desensitized mess like he is in the comics.
Also, I still think Lori should die relatively soon.

It was survival and nothing else. The fact is they were moving too slow and the walkers were gaining on them. there was absolutely NO WAY they were going to make it back together. one of them had to stay and hold the walkers off so the other could escape, and shane even OFFERED to do it, but otis wanted to try and push on together. shane saw it just wasn't happening, so he did what he did. If he kept him alive and they kept running, they would have been caught and they both would have been killed, and carl would have died because there would be no medical supplies.
people hating him and calling him a murderer for that don't seem to understand that the rules of the old world do not apply in this one. there is no good and evil, there is no right and wrong. What might have once been considered murder is now considered survival, and nothing more. you do whatever you have to to stay alive.

Or you know, Shane could've just ran faster. Even if Otis wouldn't have been able to keep up, he'd still have a fighting chance.

Hell yes. And I'm sure they can contact a National Guard motorpool to drive the Bradley around for them seeing as they never fired the main gun in the comic because they couldn't figure out how to do so. The National Guard motorpool near my house is FULL of everything from Bradleys to M60s and Abrams, just dozens of tanks lined up side by side sitting there. And those Deuce and a Halfs aren't exactly uncommon even in civilian ownership.

That's the main difference between Rick and Shane- Shane will not hesitate to make someone's death even more painful and awful than it needs to be, he's sadistic.
If it had been Shane there instead of Rick, that guy impaled on the fence would have been used as zombie bait, not saved. Shane wouldn't have shot the guy and saved him the suffering, which was one approach Rick and Herschel considered, neither would he have considered risking his life to save him. He would have just used him as bait just like Otis, killing him in the most torturous way possible.

Ok, people keep talking about Shane vs Rick and the decisions they've made. But what would you have done with the guy who fell on the fence? Save him, put him out of his misery, use him as bait, or something else?
I personally would've just put a bullet in his skull. Trying to save the kid was stupid, in my opinion, because they are endangering themselves for some one who was just trying to kill them (It doesn't matter if he's "Just a Kid.") The kid also seemed to protest the idea of having his leg chopped off, and he had this desperate look on his face like he wanted to be killed so the pain would end. I'm curious to see what other solutions you guys can come up with.

Didn't they say that he (the kid) wouldn't be able to walk for a week or did they mean like walking with crutches? Did they lift his leg up instead of cutting it off?

I think it's pretty much common fucking sense not to check the thread until you've seen the episode. It's obvious we're all going to be talking about what happened in the most recent episode, and you shouldn't have to click the spoiler every post just to discuss it.

In general, in a zombie apocalypse I'd give someone the same consideration I'd want: If saving me is not possible OR will cause others to lose their lives, a bullet to head is what I ask for. I don't care about coming back as a zombie, but I don't want to have to go through the experience of being eaten alive by them.
Of all the options, the only totally unacceptable one would be for you to use me as zombie bait.

Yeah, I don't understand people freaking out about spoilers after an episode has aired. Posting spoilers about future episodes or the comics, yeah, tag those, but for an episode that's just aired? Watch the fucking thing before reading the thread. It's your own fault if you don't.

I think I would have saved him, even though he shot at me. (The only way I wouldn't is if he actually killed or injured one of us, then I'd just leave him.) He may have been a danger before, but I doubt he's going to stab rick in the back when he was the only one kind enough to save him. And like rick said, his group left him to die, so they aren't out looking for him, and I doubt he's gonna go running back to them when they abandoned him. Might as well just make him part of the family.
