If you carry rope with you, try and avoid keeping it around your neck, if you do one day fall with rope around your neck, it could snag on something and, break your neck or hang you.

Someplace south in New Jersey, I remember there was some sort of tower.
In the tower was a bedroom, Hell, It was falling apart so I got hit in the head with a fucking rock from the ceiling.
The attic was so far the strangest, Graffiti said "Look behind", Then there were porn mags, Graffiti said "Men will enjoy this" As if I was a woman,
The basement was the scariest shit, There were about 10 fucking copies of the movie "The Exorcist", And a TV.
There were exactly 2 bedrooms, One looked like it was an adults room, Under the bed were more porn mags.
The other bedroom looked like a childs room, It had toys, under the bed were a few rats, but there was a chest with a $1 bill inside of it.
The kitchen had graffiti all over it, One said: My wife would be here.
A living room had a fireplace, Above it, Was written in red graffiti, Mary's Tower.
Mary must've been the wife or the child or something, But looking at the fireplace I noticed a porn mag. So basiclly, The people who lived here were perverts.

Edited I didn't mension that the whole house was about 5 stories high, I was like "What the fuck?. Also, There was a note, I left it there, Since this was about a year ago, I don't remember much, I took pictures but I sold them away to my cousins down in south america( they love urbex), I did take a picture of the note, They dont have facebook(nor do I) but I do remember that the note said:"houses here. houses there" somewhere in the middle.
I don't believe ghosts were there.I don't believe in ghosts anyway, I think Weird NJ wrote about this aswell, It is pretty much urbex when I have to bust the fucking door open with my god damn foot, plus the fact that there was graffiti on every god damn floor.

I've never done any Urbex, but I've always wanted to. How much is in Richmond VA? I want to find it for myself, but is there any that's well known?

my top two favorite types of places to explore are hospitals and malls
sucks that my favorite types are generally the hardest to find/get into

In my town there's an abandoned hospital that is around 3-4 stories that I've explored. It's pretty nice.
Used to be a hospital, then they turned it into a nursing home, then it got shut down when they found a meth lab in the basement.
I even found some pvc piping in the basement :o

Me and some friends are planning on going into an old folk's home. We went their at night to get over the worst of it, and goddamn it was creepy. Right next to it there's a broken fence which leads to an abandoned house.
We've still yet to go inside and have a good ol' look around, but we found a way in. Getting onto the roof is the first part, and to do that you have to run & jump off a pipe in the ground, and grab onto one attached to the wall, then pull yourself onto the roof.
There's a part of the roof where a glass dome used to be, about 1mx1m. We tied a rope to another pipe (very secure, we checked) and then climbed down the rope. We didn't tied any knots as that reduces the strength of the rope.
We were finally in there, but took one look down a dark hallway, and pussied out. I need to bring my dad's torch next time, it's a right good'un

Anyone in the US ever been caught? What happened? What are the possible charges that one could face?
I've explored four or five different locations around Ohio, but most of them are either so far out of the way that there's little chance of getting caught, or so well known that the cops really don't care.

Make sure that the places are actually abandoned and not crack houses before you try to get in.

When me and my cousin do it we always try to get somethin good. If not then we wasted our time finding a way in and crossing like 20 barbed wire fences to get there.
Okay only 3 fences and like a mile of field....

Hey urbex friends, i shall bring you pictures of the abandoned golf course come this summer.
Shits so cash, drive our cars around the golf cart roadway's for a few hours.
Also if a building has no entryway other than breaking a window, should we just stay out?

also deer running and you just see their heads pop up every few seconds.

find a fire escape, it usually won't be locked from the inside
use an L shaped piece of thin flat metal to latch a door, or try feeding bra wire behind the latch and giving it a bit of a jiggle

worth mentioning
could be alarmed; reed switches on doors, passive infrared sensors above doorways etc
but may not be powered or monitored
i usually test things first, open a door for it for a bit, maybe try set off a sensor or alarm, hide and see if anyone turns up
if you want to get inside that badly it might be worth it, you can always balls in and hope for the best, but it doesn't always end well
if there's stuff of value in there, it'll generally be alarmed and I wouldn't go for it, especially something small and unrewarding that'll make you look like you're a thief when security or police roll up

I found a ladyfriend who is into urbex. I think she might be a keeper, because she was begging to go somewhere and explore when she visited me this past weekend.
I might keep her around
Also, going to a coal breaker sometime soon. Pretty excited for that.

Hah, there is an abandoned Lenox China factory right next door, we're going to check that out too, probably in a few weeks when i sort out some vehicle problems.
also climbed up on a wall at the golf course clubhouse, lookit them creepy freezers man.

Went to the abandoned lenox china factory, main building was locked and possibly alarmed but most of the out buildings were accessible, as well as the roof.
This was just recon, going again to see if we can get into the factory/ check for alarm

Pretty cool place, old business documents are still present, along with some machinery.

I almost had to sleep at Pyestock tonight.
We Had to wait for 4 hours on the roof of the plant house before it was safe to leave.

Less than a year ago I was at my nephew's, he told me there was a school there which was about to be demolished. The place was surprisingly ridden with filth for the short time it was abandoned, it's obvious lots of hobos have slept there.
Of course, thanks to this subforum I just had to get in. Unfortunately, our time was sparse, and the sun was at the peak of its routine. It was also Sunday so lots of people could've seen us.
It wasn't really a big school though. The front door was closed very firmly, so we went through the back which was quite obscured by alot of trees and bushes. My nephew and little brother had been there before, the fire escape door was open then, when we arrived it wasn't. Being the little vandal my little brother is, he broke a window right next to the door when he was there, so my nephew climbed into the hole and opened the door for us.
Inside of the school, there was glass, paper, beer bottles, giant glass drawers all over the floor, alot of that shit everywhere. I picked up a few of the papers and had a look at them, some of them were pretty interesting.
The building was very inter-connected. When you enter the front door (we didn't risk going there, though, in case we could've been seen), there is this big atrium-esq room, which has a pretty nice front desk. There are only two floors. My nephew climbed over the desk like a ninja and got behind the counter. There he found quite neat things, such as a bundle of keys, a flashlight, and also (iirc) a very neat wristwatch.
There were fire extinguishers all over the place. Most of them were already empty, but the few ones that weren't were quite severely abused by us. Needless to say, it was a mess.
My nephew and little brother just couldn't resist throwing all of them through glass, doors, a sink (made of surprisingly strong porcelein), and also a toilet.
We found quite alot of stuff, such as a cup with a spoon in it (that spoon was quickly stuck in a wall because we threw it all over the place), and a little bit of coffee still left on the bottom of the cup. Alot of floppy disks, a giant stiletto knife, a good stack of cd's (I took some of 'em), and a few pictures of previous students, headmasters and teachers. Oh, and a bicycle, which we used to get to the physed room. There were still alot of sport balls and equipment. After we left the gym, we threw the bicycle all over the place, leaving destruction in its trail, such as ceiling light frames being totally devestated.
We also came across the boiler room, which was locked, however we had the keys to get in. There were quite surprisingly big boilers for a small-scale school like this. There was no pressure on them and the building was entirely cut off from water, gas and electricity. This was without doubt the only part in the building that didn't look touched.
We then found an elevator and its maintanance room. Using the keys my nephew had found, he opened the room's door, which had a little window in it to see into the elevator shaft. There wasn't very interesting stuff in it though, only the key for opening the elevator door, which we did. The elevator was on the bottom floor.
Everything that we could find that wasn't stuck somehow was then relocated to the bottom of the elevator shaft. Except for one extinguisher, which my little brother used for the grande finale.
When we were about to leave, my little brother decided it'd be an amazing idea to get up to the top floor and throw that single fire exinguisher through a window for everyone to see.
The school has been demolished half a year ago. I work as a mailman on Saturdays now, and the first block I have to deliver mail in is this exact block. It looks quite empty without the building.
Oh, and I still get mail for the staff of a non-existant school. I had 5-10 letters adressed to nothing the past 2 weeks.
