One more thing, I may as well be helpful before I ragequit. I pulled this list off the CG forums.
You won't feel it as much with a hard mousepad, but you still want to steer away from it if you want to use it for gaming.

I've had a Razer DeathAdder 3500DPI Edition for a pretty long time.
So far, it's the best mouse I've owned, and I had an MX518 before this.
Actually a lot of the Steelseries mice seem to be ambidextrous
Because lefties are looking for new gaming mice, but nearly nobody makes them. Which either turns them automatically to Steelseries or Razer. Steelseries makes them ambidextrous so they can still sell them to right-handed people.
It's a pretty nice mouse. The dirt doesn't get caught in stupid places like on my old Imperator and it's supposedly using a more accurate sensor (ADNS rather than Twin-Eye).
For left-handed people, the only major mouse producer (major being Microsoft, Logitech, Razer, or Steelseries) that isn't really an option is Logitech.
When it comes to Microsoft stick with the big three, those being the WMO, IMO 1.1, andIMO 3.0(forgot that the IMO 3.0 is for right-handed unlike the other two). For Razer, I've heard some things about glitchy sensors in different versions of the Deathadder and I don't know if they ever fixed it, so if it were me I'd go with an Abyssus if I wanted a Razer mouse. For Steelseries, I don't really know much about their mice except that most people seem to praise them for quality/weight/reliability/etc. (I've never used one though), at the cost of bigger price. I'm thinking about getting a Sensei though.
Okay, decided i'll probably go for a Sidewinder x4 Keyboard but I require a mouse.
I was planning to get the R.A.T. 5 for about £42, but is it just full of gimmicks or great? If not, what do you recommend for around £40?
A Deathadder or a G4/500.
I have a Gigabyte M6900, got it for like £15 and it's served me well for over a year.

I'll update the post tomorrow since this laptop is being a dick and not letting me edit.
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Add a bit about the different lasers or such Mice use..
My Mouse has a blue Laser which apparently can work on more surfaces than a red ones do, then there's the ball mice which suck
WHY would I want a new mouse?
Edited:
mine works sweet when I want to.. wel... CLICK SOMETHING.
More buttons, higher DPI, More comfort, Look's good.
I don't know why anyone would need more buttons, every game ever made on PC is designed to be played with 2.
Never really understood the concept of DPI.
More comfort and good looking are thte only valid reasons, but I'm not paying 100 dollars for a good looking mouse.
so pay 30
so I want a wireless usb mouse with not too many extra buttons, but more than the standard three. I keep running into mice that are bluetooth-only, wired-only, or have about fifty extra buttons (which I don't need). Really I'd be fine with 4 or 5.
Any good suggestions? I ask this as I'm slowly going through all the mice listed so far, but Amazon isn't giving me much.
e. eyeballing these two, just in preliminary looks, any opinions or other suggestions?
About gigabyte, their mice is really worth to be mentioned in this thread, of all the mice I tried and owned, none can compete to Gigabyte.
I have a Razer Lachesis and a CM Storm Sentinel but none of these can compete against my old $15 Gigabyte M6800.
Add the Xai to the OP. It's gorgeous.
Got mine for £25 in a sale.
They are both awful mice so that is to be expected
The Sensei is the new version, I would like to keep reliableish prices.

Couldn't find it on amazon.
Games aren't "designed" to use 2 buttons. Or at least, 2 pre-defined buttons. Ever noticed how your thumb usually rests on the side of the mouse? Not doing anything? Turns out if you put buttons there it gives you more options. Instead of having to spread a ton of binds across a keyboard, just stick something useful on your extra mouse button, bam. Instant fun.
More buttons and higher DPI are perfectly valid reasons.
Well for me I use that Logitech marble trackball. Left thumb on LMB and pinky on RMB. Two either side of that to move the ball of the mouse and finally my middle finger waiting patiently to go up when something on a game doesn't go my way.
The problem is that I'm not terribly creative and I still have no clue what to bind to the side buttons on my MX518 other than PTT. :V
Switch weapon
reload
melee attack
special attack
flashlight
grenade
switch ammo/grenade type
turbo/nitro/boost
steady aim
switch fire mode
open map
show X hud overlay
show scores
Baiscally anything you need to hit with incredible reaction speed or things that are normally akwardly mapped (open map is usually m which is annoying if you're activley using it to navigate and the minimap is nonexistant/nondescriptive).
Ahh, that is kind of excusable with a mouse like that though. Weird design for a mouse, how do they control exactly? Comfortable or just kind of weird in general?
I bought it from Ebuyer

A lot comfortable than the ones with the ball on the side. Unfortunately the trackball user base is going down, including me as I want a change but the Logitech marble mouse is definitely the best one. Gaming wise is debatable.. it has two extra buttons only but I found I could turn and react quicker than with a standard.
why would anyone ever try to game with a trackball
I think I'm going to get the M6900 since it's pretty cheap and has everything I want. Should I get one of those mouse mat things too? They look like rip-offs.
I know where you can get some free mouse mats.
Leme see if I can pull up the link

Because it's a lot easier for fps' personally.
bowling sim
I have heard of upper-level Heavy players in TF2 using a trackball because it allows for very quick turns while allowing for minute adjustments - the accuracy of a minigun and the susceptibility to Spies plays into this.
I agree with you on a personal level, but don't knock it too much.
upper-level Heavy players
dude are you shitting me right now
This is what I use, the XM518's bigger brother.
Looks like an alien brain, but is comfy as shit.
I use a track ball too, man. Except the ball is moved with the thumb, the fingers operate the LMB and RMB. I've always loved track balls. Used the same Logitech one for the past 10 years.
Having to move around my entire hand to turn my character, in an FPS for instance, just seems retarded to me. Being able to flick your thumb around and do sharp precise turns is nice.
You have never played an MMO or FPS/RTS while using VoIP.
Mouse4 is basically required for using VoIP, people who use misconfigured voice activation should be shot.
heh

i use left alt in every voip program because it was the default in vent
