Adventure game
So why do we need to submit our email addresses again? I think it'd be much simpler if we just posted in this thread when we're done with the changes.
Literally nothing except 'adventure game'.
This should be interesting.
Where's the official download for LÖVE 0.8.0? I've been using a love.exe that came with someone's metaballs demo.
Edited:
jesus christ why is this dumb
For submissions. To submit your build you can post it in this thread or email it to me at jerish@i3software.org. Once you do send it to me, I need a way to confirm that it is your email.
But you can also post it in this thread. I'll check it at 23:50:00 GMT every day and update the website at 0:00:00 GMT. Email it just easier for me to keep track of.
At the end of the cycle, do we start at the first one again?
We'll have signups again. People can sign up regardless if they were in the previous cycle. We continue until we think we have a finished game.
I added you as the first person and moved supersnail to the 4th.
Well then, let the game begin...
I've got some things to do on Friday but I'll start around 11.30-12.00 GMT +1 and submit at the end of the day. I'll just start with basic things like main loop and helper libs.
Am I allowed to copy/paste tiny snippets from other games such as functions to explode a string?
(Btw, I think tile-based would be the best for this?)
An isometric perspective could be interesting.
I vote tile based but non isometric.
there is no voting, you pick up from whatever is handed to you by the person before
Ok, fine.
I recommend tile based but non isometric.
Oh yeah, you can use code you've written before, just make sure it's clean and we can understand it.
This goes for everyone. If you have code that you wrote or you acquired with an open-source license you can use it.
Top-down tile-based adventure shooter a la Zelda it is then.
(You play the guard)

It starts with walking around for 4 hours when eventually someone shows up and fights you. If you win, he will respawn. If you lose, game over.

Why do I have the same feeling as being the last man standing in CoD Search & Destroy or something?
Is it possible for us all to say what we will be doing on the order list?
Seems to make sense.
I thought the point was that there was no theme or gametype, you just pass on your source code and people do whatever the fuck they want until you have a functional game.
There is no "theme". We are making an adventure game. It has to conform to the standards which make it an "adventure" game. Other than that, you can do whatever the hell you want with it.
Edited:
Nah. It should be more spontaneous. I don't want to know what I'm going to get from the person ahead of me. I think creativity flows better when you're given a product to work with that you may not know much about. If you want to, you can tell people what you're going to do, but thats your choice and won't go on the official list.
I hoped you guys would get a theme from some random title generator, Facepunch presents; ''Morbidly Obese Dance Crisis''

I wanna skip to Friday...
[sp[Not just because of this but next week is holiday for me[/sp]
start now then?
Stop. We don't want or need a theme and we're not going to use one.
He could start now, but that would ruin the fun and challenge of having the code for a day.
Maybe I'll participate in the next one. I'd like to see how this one turns out first...
I won't be able to participate between the 10/3 and 31/3, so maybe you could move me further down the list?
And by open source license, he means a license that allows you to use the code, no matter if it's open source or not. Because open source license is a meaningless term and it'd be easy to fuck it up.
By the way, what timezone are we gonna use?
We have gone over this. GMT.
Nvm, thats +1 hour for me =D
No, that would ruin the point.
No, that would ruin the point.
No, that would ruin the point.
Ideas Guy.
No, that would ruin the point.
That is the point, this needs to be more clarified.
You're all programmers. Just use common sense. This thread doesn't need to be a clusterfuck.
That was said without a smirk, right?
i don't get it
are you saying you can't work with large, clearly intelligent and well-thought out if-else-if-else-if-else-if-else chains?
He was commenting on how you only have one person before you so you get to pretty much do whatever you want
Oh god.. How small is the chance that some of my snippets are still in the final game?

Wouldn't it make sense to put people with with a very good grasp of the language/framework at the beginning, to make sure everything is set up well for everyone else to build upon?
i can write crappy code in any language
Yes, but that's not the point of this project.
unfortunately you have too many people taking this project too seriously, "establishing" things which dont need to be established - take a decent programmer and write a bit of code, pass it on, and don't become too attached to everything
