It was Saturday, 4 February, and the first snowflakes of 2012 were falling all around London.
Doubtless, some pupils fervently hoped it would lead to their school being closed the following Monday morning, on the grounds that it was too treacherous to open.
The trouble is that their school, the Jewish Free School in Harrow, north London, was quick off the mark – and posted a message on its website telling parents that it would be classes as usual at the start of the following week.
Some pupils, it would appear, had other ideas.
Within hours, a computer hacker had managed to bring down the school's website, leaving parents unable to check if the school would be open as usual on Monday.
But not content with that, the hackers are then said to have created a fake email purporting to come from the school and telling parents that the school would be closed due to heavy snow.
Many older pupils were absent from the school on the Monday owing to the success of the hack and the spreading of the fake email, according to the Jewish Chronicle.
Students on social networking sites were openly discussing the plan to take down the website, urging the hackers to keep it closed. One said: "Kids were going crazy over this... Students who they were not even friendly with managed to find out about what they had done."

ugh, we had an "anon" going by the name (lolirony) T3am_Python who sent an 800 word email around school comparing mandatory assemblies to "nuremberg rallies" and urging his (nonexistant) followers to rise up and fight the oppressive school regime by DDOSing the school website, and warning that if the authorities attempted to surpress T3eam_Python "we will retaliate with any means necessary". It was pathetic really, especially considering he's in upper 6th (so 17 or 18 years old).This has happened to our campus like, three times this semester so far

also it didn't really remain anonymous all that well because anyone who knew the guy knew who it was immediately because he's a tard that keeps going on about shit like that.

I didn't actually hack the website but I changed the status to closed using Chrome's live source editor thing and tricked like 5 kids into staying home

Considering how horrible schools computer security is (in general), it wouldn't be too hard (for even a script kiddie, i dunno) to do such a thing on their schools website.

Reminds me how our we're able to log into our school's old un-used homepage using our normal student info. That means anyone could post a new "Bulletin" and people would basically use it like twitter or facebook.
Then in class today someone posted a new "Bulletin" and the teacher immediately got a phone call, the kid got kicked off the computer and the homepage went down.

When I hacked my school's network I just barely escaped with indefinite behavioral probation after pleading my case to the dean for why I believe I should not be expelled :(
(they found out it was me because I uploaded "virus.exe" to a network OP's root and it had my account name in the metadata)

Reminds me of the time I figured out School IT never blocked RegEDIT so I used that to create a new user who was an administrator. Had quite a bit of fun until IT guys figured out what happened a few weeks later. Surprisingly I never faced any consequences other than tightened security for computers though that was universal.

I remember my last year of school, when my friends managed to guess the network admin's password, but he changed it regularly and we didn't give in to temptation.
My French teacher's password was 'Mardi' and an IT teacher's was 'Dolphin'. I imagine that they were just watched whilst they were typing it in, but we still had a laugh over getting it right. Not real hacking anyway.
