In the next few months I'm thinking about switching from 2.1 to 5.1 cause, well, 5.1 is awesome. Now, i don't really have much space in my room (about 3 feet in between the front of my desk and my bed, leaving barely any room for my chair), so is it possible to to mount the 2 back speakers on my ceiling? I have enough space on my desk for everything else, but unfortunetly, my parents gave me with a giant ass bed for no damn reason. Anyways, i'm willing to go over $100 (no more then $150, please).

oh, is it possible to get a device (or switch) to route my TV audio through my speakers, so i can switch between my computer and TV?

eheh.... i dont think that would work well... i'm guessing speakers don't mount well to mattresses. now that i think about it, i could just get stands for behind me, but i'm afraid that i'll trip over them in the middle of the night because i get out of bed on the left side, and my door is on the right. between my desk and my bed is the only way to get to my door besides climbing over my bed.

if you want sound from the tv on your speakers, just buy an optical cable and plug in your tv and your speaker, that way any sound played on your tv will be played on the speaker

I have a pair they are pretty freaking loud. It will do you good.

You can get some g51's pretty cheap on ebay, they may not have the best design in the world but damn do they sound good, the 65W RMS sub is distortion free even at high levels and the twin-midrange drivers in the satellites are sufficiently clear and full.
If you wanted to, an upgrade of the front left and right channels can be done with a set of good bookshelf style speakers and will give you more above the desk bass with a fuller tone. This is what i have done.
The controller pod is also brilliant, with easy separate channel volume adjustment, and sockets for headphone and mic, with mic mute easily accessible, it will also let you set and remember different volumes for different profiles.
What's not to like?

The set has some problem with static noise if the plug it's in isn't grounded properly.

I'm assuming you're switching because you're more into games and movies right? For a 100 bucks you'll be hardpressed to find a 5.1 system that'll sound decent with music.

Almost every 5.1 system for around $100 will most likely be atrocious.
After not being impressed by any all in ones I ended up getting a $200 Harmon Kardon 5.1 set and using my father's old receiver.
My house shakes at a quarter volume and with optical out the sound quality is amazing on Hd movies.

It's better to buy a decent setup then to get a crappy one only to have to replace it later.

A cheap 5.1 system is gonna sound like crap, put that money to a good pair of studio monitors instead and never look back.

I use the Logitech X-540.. I think it sounds pretty damn good I had to buy extension wires but hey, whats another $15.

Personally, being disortion-free at high levels is a must, even at the highest volumes available, and nothing I've ever seen heard or used that was a) speakers and b) logitech did not in any way even stand remotely compared to secondhand alternatives purchased from locals, or perhaps even friends or family.
