My grandfather was a diabetic and also had to get his both his legs amputated. At times I'd say suicide was a preferable alternative, especially near the end.

Well its really considering how he feels about the situation. Despite whatever his condition with diabetes may be, blowing his brains out a hour or two before family arrives seems like a rash and not thought out decision.

Him calling 911 leads me to believe he doesn't want to die anymore. Im assuming this because he still had the ability to take his life if he wished.

This makes me really depressed - I am a fan of both shows and enjoyed his part in both hugely - ESPECIALLY Maclom in the Middle when he showed up in the Arctic.

That seems really backwards. The brain is the most important part, you'd think it would want you to know that it's being damaged...

The human body evolved to deal with a certain set of threats. Most of those threats cannot break through the skull. The ones that can, well - you're dead anyway. It doesn't do you any good.

I read about a woman who was stabbed in the head with a knife, and went to the grocery store without realizing. They had her on security tape walking around with this knife in her head for ~1 hour before someone said something, IIRC.

Anyhow, this is awful. I don't watch any of the shows he's been in, but it sounds like he was in a very desperate place. I'm not sure how the human body can survive something like this, but we know that there have certainly been cases in the past where people have recovered. Here's hoping whatever happens, he finds some peace.

I also find it morally abhorrent that the 9/11 call is online; people don't need to be privy to this information, and I'm sure he/his family would not wish for it to be circulating.

It's possible he shot himself above and behind his temple (Just) which is an extremely hard part of the skull. It's been known to stop bullets

I just can't imagine a .38 ripping through, from one side to the other, a brain and the guy surviving. I'm kind of thinking the bullet may have just barely penetrated but got lodged. He said he could open one eye

He only loaded one bullet into the gun. Leads me to believe he thought this out in advance. Do it hours before someone is supposed to show up, leg amputated, toes to be amputated... that kind of Diabetes only gets way worse before it kills you anyway
