An 11-year-old girl has died following an after-school fight at a California school, but authorities say they have no immediate plans for arrests. Police said the girl died at a hospital hours after the fight with another 11-year-old girl outside the school in Long Beach. Authorities have not released the girl's name, but the Long Beach Press Telegram said she has been identified by friends as Joanna Ramos. Friday's fight at Willard Elementary School didn't appear to be especially serious or violent, no weapons were used and neither girl was knocked to the ground, police said. Police could not say what prompted the fight but friends had their suspicions. "They were fighting over a boy," said Stephanie Guadalupe, a friend of Joanna. "I told the teacher and she said she would talk to all the girls on Monday. "The students involved in the altercation left an after-school program and went to an alley near the school to fight.Some students said bullying had been a problem at the school, but Deputy Chief Robert Luna could not confirm if this was an issue in this incident.Adults later noticed Joanna wasn't feeling well and drove her to a local emergency room, Luna said. She was hospitalised and had surgery but died about six hours after the fight at 9pm on Friday. "There are times when words do not convey the sense of sadness we feel," Mayor Bob Foster said at a news conference. "This is one of those times. "A coroner has not yet determined a cause of death. Police are investigating and say no arrests are immediately planned. They have interviewed the girl who fought with Ramos.

Shit... I don't even know what else to say. RIP to the girl, condolences to her family, and to the girl who killed her. I highly doubt this other girl meant to kill her, and now she has to live with that the rest of her life. And she's only 11 for fuck's sake.

How did she die? If no weapons were used and they weren't even knocked on the floor, certainly an 11 years old doesn't have enough strength to kill another 11 years old with just punching.

Well, it's not impossible she was caught in a stranglehold or was otherwise throttled. If the opposing party had long fingernails it's also not impossible that there was some fatal puncturing in the windpipe and throat.

You can do a lotta things with long nails and an angry disposition. Perhaps it was just a large girl who clubbed her in the head a bit too hard.
It's more likely there was some prior medical condition that someone wasn't aware of, however. Like a heart disease.

This seems like something that would happen on a 1000 Ways To Die episode.
Like, they got hit in the stomach or something and they didn't feel pain or anything and it ripped a hole or some shit and it killed them several hours later.

Happened in my town a year or so ago (though not under the same circumstances as this article). A couple of kids were playfighting in the bathroom at the Junior High, and this one kid, whose name I believe was Donnie, got a punch to the chest that sent him into cardiac arrest. Turned out he had a heart condition and hadn't told the friends he was hanging out with, and it killed him. Just goes to show how fragile human life is.

I don't think it was the fight that killed her. If no weapons were used and it didn't appear to be too violent then it had to have been a preexisting condition that was affecting her.
