    Hey there,

Just put together a new build today. Everything seems lightning quick. Thought I'd give my HDD a test (it's a samsung F3 1TB)

    I got this output:

I did a few other tests, this was one of the better ones. The others had much more wild "up and down" patches. Some even had brief moments where the speed dropped to near 0!

I think there may be a fault. Hardware? Did I plug something in wrong? New SATA cable? Please note this is the first time I've built a PC, I'm surprised it even turns on

    Cheers!

Spinpoint F3's aren't exactly known for speed.

uh yes they are, one of the best 1TB HDDs, and they managed it while being close to the cheapest before the flooding price rises
    they're popular for a reason

It's probably search indexing or something interfering

    I have 2x F3's

    This is my OS drive:

And this is my Data storage:

If you notice my OS drive seems to drop in performance around the same position as yours.

My OS drive was bought on june 2010 (nearly 2 years ago) and my Data was bought last year on August.

Interesting. Perhaps windows 7 doesn't play nice with it
Thanks for running those tests. I guess it's pretty normal?

It's just reading or writing during the test which makes HD Tune think it's performing worse than it is. Pagefile, search indexing, a download, whatever. Don't worry about it. Although I don't think it should be THAT big of a jump, you probably don't have AHCI on.
