There was a thunderstorm, I am not sure if the lightnings cause damage (haven't played in a long while) but it may have been it

Lightning can't kill a player but does 2 and a half hearts damage to it.

Look for some nether portals around spawn. Enter them and once you're in the nether enter the portal you came out of. That should take you out pretty far.

Are there any Facepunch holdfasts? I've been wandering the war-torn wastes for hours and the only guys I met tried to kill me.

I finally found somewhere to settle down, been surviving quite well by taking stuff from abandoned settlements along the way. Server's very fun

Well, I've set about restoring an abandoned holdfast, hopefully I can keep this safe enough to provide some sort of safe point for any lost Facepunchers. If the Gods are good, it won't be a half blown-up, lava-filled wreck.

Someone mentioned about potentially making a library for the next patch. I got bored and started construction.

I wouldn't bother unless you have ink for some books. First thing I'm gonna do once I get far out enough to build is go for a swim and look for some squid.

If people find out, it's close to impossible to keep a big base. Even xcc2's
place looks deserted right now. The lava flow's are awfull
(Got killed when just looking to what happened, luckily I had good place for bed + backup gear)
As for making/keeping safe points, In my experience it is better make
multiple small points a bit further away (at least 1k) with minimal resource.
This way it also doesn't hurt to much to give coordinates for one of
them away here in forum or even as whisper ingame.
If I am in the mood I do the same, currently those bases are abandoned
as I want to build something bigger and that needs to be outside 10k.

That was you? Mate, you saved my virtual life. I was three hearts away from starving and nothing but torches and a workbench to my name. I was cutting down trees just looking for apples at the time.

I searched the entire island I am currently on. It's about 10,000 blocks by 10,000 blocks, and nobody lives on it except me.
So lonely :(

Currently living inside an island, found a nice bunch of resources, making a large farm so I can start placing geocaches of food in different areas, and if I make enough I'll post some of the coords here. Then I'll make a base somewhere past the 10k mark.

Alright people. I had died and all my goodies were lost so I gave up and started stalking people.
I was stalking this one person named "phrrhiccomedy" This person did not notice me follow them into the nether, Nor did he/she notice me at all in the nether. Phrrhiccomedy found a portal in the nether and entered it (as so did I after he/she did) Phrriccomedy had starved to death moments later after leaving the portal from the nether, so i told him/her I was stalking him/her all this time and blah blah blah. I looked at the cords to see where I was at and what do you know. I'm bloody close to the old Facepunch base 2k2k. So I decide to go check it out for the first time. When I arrive I find the place griefed as said in the op. But it was fun and amazing to explore and see the ruins of the old compound. You guys put so much work into it to make it what it was. It was so big and so much to it. It was also nice to see you guys leave signs stating you were there.
I don't know who built this shrine.
And the abundance of food growing there is ridiculous!
If you would like to see some photos I took showing the amount of food just PM me.
Anyway's, it was nice to see the base.

I was just walking with about two health, all of a sudden I saw a watermelon item just laying on the ground next to tilled dirt. It was like the luckiest thing ever, and the hardest thing ever since it was right by spawn and I didnt have any wood. :( took me forever to get started when I see stories like this where people just find this awesome shit and are set for entire virtua life in 2b2t

Sounds like you got the easiest way out possible. My second time out of spawn, I couldn't get any bonemeal because there was a massive spike in players because the facepunchers started to come back and leaving my shitty hole in the ground meant certain death. I had to salvage a wrecked wheat farm and wait for wheat to grow while people walked around aboveground. Eventually I got killed by a ~pr0 mlg~ raider, but at least he was too busy going to spawn to destroy the wheat.

first time i joined, after 10min some invite me to a random base i think his name was pyro1v1aniac or something
we got griefed after like 3 days , went solo from there. gotten to know more people, losing more bases etc....
this was about 12-13 months ago? before hunger and shit
