Most of that is of historical value. A lot of the catholic churches money is tied up in assets and this thus not very useful to them.

that's really my biggest problem with religion - why bother following it if you're going to ignore the parts that don't suit you? I know many Christians for example who eat pork but they're specifically told not to eat it.

If someones belief is bringing suffering upon one person, or a group.
You have to bring attention to that belief, you can't just stand there and watch what would otherwise be criminal get shrugged off as: "That person has a sincerely held religious conviction that what they are doing is the will of their almighty".

There is a difference between respecting peoples views and allowing murder.
People are allowed to find furries sexually attractive, think fairies exist, Obama is a Kenyan so long as it does not infringe on the rights of others.
That means they cannot go around killing 'witches' nor can they brainwash someone into thinking a certain way.

Whether or not certain meats are considered "food" is different but I didn't see anything directly saying you can't eat something because of its origin.

You can't call extreme acts a mental illness, when socially accepted conventions of hate are still adapted and enforced, without question aren't considered the same (It's a double standard).
