On a rainy April 17, 1982, Queen Elizabeth II in her right as the Queen of Canada signs the Constitution Act, 1982 into law. The Prime Minister is Pierre Trudeau, and the Justice Minister is the future PM Jean Chretien. Noted for her absense is British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
At the height of the October Crisis, Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau enacts the War Measures Act to combat the FLQ after the abduction of Quebec's Minister of Labour Pierre Laporte and the British Trade Commisioner James Cross. On October 13th, Trudeau is interviewed at Parliament Hill and delivers his famous "Just watch me."
Occasionally, even liberal democracies call out the troops. Although the use of the war Measures Act is seriously deplored by everyone now, I... actually think Trudeau did the right thing. You gotta do what you gotta do.
Another interesting fact about the image: If you exam it close enough, you'll see it was taken at JUST the right moment where the trigger is pulled but the bullet has not yet fired.

Oh Jesus, that kid in the bottom left, in the water, is he sitting up, still alive? Good God...
What's the story behind this?
That's Anders Behring Breivik on the small island of Utoya in Norway. He went on the island posing as a police officer and shot 69 people, most of them children.
Oh god, I didn't know there were pictures of it...
After killing 7 people in a bomb blast.
Didn't change the world, but sure caused quite the hilarious backlash

Also, the whole event was shot on video by a nearby cameraman, too. Skip to 20:00, because I don't know what I have to put in the URL to force it to go to that automatically. Could be considered NSFW, although its not really that gory. It's been stated that Loan did similar executions on a regular basis, but most likely probably out of the eye of the media. Also, the picture itself was shot at the moment the bullet struck his head, maybe a little bit after.
The soldier on the far left is actually one of my old classmate's grandfather. Pretty crazy.

If I remember the story correctly a journalist was walking back to a red cross camp.
He came across the kid and took the picture, he then kept walking, shortly after receiving a
prize for the picture he committed suicide.

What the hell is that?
Most likely police hosing down protesters at an equal rights riot in the southern US.
Looks like a water cannon being used on African Americans

This thread made me realize how many dead bodies I had seen in my lifetime. Everything on a photograph is inanimate, I guess that's what makes a photograph of a dead body acceptable.
Looking at these kind of make me happy. Happy that I have never been in one of those pictureworthy situations. The bodies have piled up many times in the past. This could happen again. But the very existence of these pictures help humanity as a whole.
We're looking at ourselves in a mirror, and all we can say is "we let this happen". Not you, not me, humanity as a whole. I think that now we have all of this behind us, and the photos to tell us what humans did to each other in the past, we have the potential to become better humans.
