Recently, I was thinking about my primary school (11 years ago, still remember it) and mayday. I always hated holding someones hand then having to bow, and judging by all the other kids faces, they didn't either.
It got me wondering whether or not it is right to make them do that if they really don't want to. Wouldn't it be just as good to make them walk side by side? I
thought that it is a debatable subject as in Looking nice vs Children's rights. Making children do that when they don't want to just because you want them to
look good is not right. My teachers would always go mad at you if you refused and then you were fucked. You HAD to hold their hand then.
I thought I would let the smartest community in the world, facepunch (LEGALISE ME SOME W33D guy not included) decide
Is it wrong to make children hold hands against their will?

I thought it was less to look good and more to acclimate the child to the idea of physical contact with people besides your family, and if that's the case then I'd see it as a necessary part of socialization.

Yes but think of it this way, some kid just had a cold. Want to hold his hand now? And doesn't playing tag or something fullfill physical contact and also the maypole dancing. Stood back to back you had to touch eachother and trust eachother.

Meh, I didn't really care.
I think it teaches children of being more social and helps the teachers keep track of the kids.

If a kid had the cold then you're more then likely going to get it even without touching his hand, that stuff spreads like wildfire in Kindergartens.

It also teaches respect, which is a good thing.

They're training you to not be antisocial.
Kids have got to learn that human contact is an okay thing when they're young, otherwise they're going to have a lot of problems with it when they're older. It also teaches boundaries and the fact that sometimes the other person wants to let go.

I did this at school when I was 10 and hated holding hands cause the one I was next to always had sticky hands. Also the teacher didn't really care if we didn't hold hands all the time so it's obviously different wherever you go, and doesn't really teach anything at all... It's just a fun thing to do

When greeting someone, like in a job interview, it is usual to shake hands.
I don't really see the problems.

On a job interview it isn't forced, you're doing it willingly, in school you are forced to do it.

I don't really see a problem with it.
Like this they can easily adjust to day-to-day physical contacts they have to make and it also could prevent them from being anti-social.

I'd hardly say this was morally wrong, it's not hurting the children, schools make children do a lot of things against their will, if they didn't kids would all sit at home doing nothing and grow up useless. Holding hands isn't exactly necessary and maybe a bit annoying (never had it at my school, but I imagine it being kind of uncomfortable for the kids ,especially if they dislike each other) but it's certainly not something that should be illegal or anything.

It teaches them about physical contact and tries to make them less antisocial.

What is wrong is separating children by gender, and forcing boys to hold hands with girls. My school sucked.

Separating genders had good points, but it also has some pretty bad ones as well.
