I had an idea last night and that idea was have a thread where people can remix the music of other people to help create better knowledge in mixing and mastering, and also for fun and helping create bond in forum

This is not a competition in the sense that you will achieve prize when you have done best mix, but instead it is a competition against yourself and helping making yourself better as artist and mixer (and I think both go hand in hand).

First track that I think will be real interesting to hear people mix is my bands track "Vitt Streck", it is a song where there are plenty of layers for the mixer to play with (it has 27 tracks, plenty of which are just background noise) but hopefully we can get the ball rolling and have other people post their tracks for remixing.

Here are some guidelines for what you should do when you get a track ready for remixing.

First, extract all the tracks for the song. Save them as .wav, because it is lossless (loses no quality no matter how many times you copy it etc). This means that every guitar, vocal line or drum part or synth should be one single .wav.
This is really important, if you are exporting drums don't just take the whole drum beat (kick, snare etc together) because it makes mixing really hard. Get them all as single pieces (kick by itself, snare by itself etc).

Use winrar to get all files together. Use best compression so that it saves space and makes it easier to upload/download.
It really is for the best, especially when all soundfiles are going to be .wav.

I think this covers all, now, remix on!

I look forward to what other people who are more in electronic music can do to a track that is just rock, and I hope someone who makes cool electronic music can share the master files to a song by them that they are proud of that I can mix and master because I always look to make new music

I kiiiiinda like it, but I just ran out of ideas what to do with it. Not the best song to remix in my opinion.

I downloaded it to try it out, dragged a few instrumentals in and wasn't feeling it was going to be that great, the tracks aren't great at all imo.
I prefer to do things one step at a time, I removed a few bits because it started getting clusterfucked.

After I removed some bits and pieces, I liked it a lot. The vocals are complete crap by the way, so I reversed them and it sounds better. :>

    was fun thanks.

That's the point, I wanted to make each sound bigger with echo.

It's a complete overhaul of the original sound, that's my "remix". :-)
