The Motherboard on my dad's computer busted so I need to replace a few things, plus a few upgrades if I can fit within the budget.
Can reuse pretty much everything. I think the CPU is a 1366 socket so it'd be easier to get a new CPU with the new motherboard. He wants to get another HDD and graphics card if we can but they're optional. PSU is 400W and RAM is 3x2GB, he doesn't do much intensive and worked on an ancient machine for ages so low-specs are fine. I was gonna get it through PC Case Gear as that's where I got the parts for mine, if there's any other Aussie retailers around Melbourne then that works too.
For CPU I was thinking of an i5 3450, just because it's in the right price range. I don't know shit about Motherboards so any suggestions there would be helpful. A Western Digital Green 2Tb for the extra HDD, just about anything is better than what he has now for the graphics card.

As far as that Green HDD goes, You're better off with a Seagate one ( http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=19554 ), the Western Digital Green ones spin slower I think (5200 RPM instead of 7200 RPM), so they are slower etc :P
Also consider this, if he's not doing gaming, and only doing basic things, you could put more money into the CPU and just use onboard graphics, they can be pretty powerful :P

i3 would be fine, I think.
Agree with Firefox guy up there. CPU onboard graphics, definitely. Just be sure to get the right mobo chipset.

Fair enough on the HDD, might keep with the i5 because there's room in the budget.

Leaves about 200 for a graphics card, if any. I say he doesn't do much but there's still games, just not anything too recent. A GTX 550 seems like it would do, my only concern is if the 400W PSU can handle it.
