I've been considering buying a Chromebook for my schooling but I would like to speak with someone who owns one of the devices.

I have a Cr-48, Samsung Series 5 and the new Series 5 550. What would you like to know?

I would just like to know the build quality of the devices, especially the Samsung Series 5. I was considering buying the Acer AC700 however reading reviews has told me that the touchpad is subpar quality. Is the extra $50 for a Samsung device really worth it? Are the upgrades in the Series 5 550 substantial enough to justify the $450 pricetag?

Also, how well do flash games run on chromebooks (such as Fancy Pants 3 from the Chrome web store)? How smooth is YouTube playback?

YouTube play back on my Beta device (CR-48) Is good.
So i am sure it would be even better on a newer device

Flash games CAn be played on mine... but not every one... i still cant play mine-craft... but then... i hear its bad for SSD's anyway
(Keeping in mind the cr-48 is low spec and is old compared to the new chromebooks)

Minecraft isn't a flash game, it's a Java based game. It runs perfectly fine on an SSD..

Build quality is good on the Series 5 I'd say, the finish shows up fingerprints quite a lot, but it's certainly a nice machine to use. The trackpad is probably it's biggest weakness, but then again I've been spoiled by Macbook trackpads.

The trackpad on the new Series 5 550 is significantly better, as is the overall speed of the device. I don't have my Series 5 or Cr-48 to hand, but I'd say it's certainly worth the extra dough for the 550. YouTube playback is smooth on the Series 5 550, and I've not tried Flash games so I can't really comment on that sorry.

Minecraft isn't happening on the Series 5 or Cr-48, it'll run SUPER slow. In any case, you'd need to flip the developer switch to install Java.

I'd imagine it would do excessive writing to disc.

At least, I have no problem. And it works just as find on both my PCs (SSD and HDD)

CP doesn't necessarily have to have a victim, it's just that 99.9% of the time it does. The thing with pedos is that they've been demonized to be horrible no matter what, and I don't think that's the case.

Thank you very much for the information. I think I'll pick the Series 5 550.

The problem wouldn't be running speed, it's that excessive writing to the disk often breaks SSDs extremely fast (though I've heard some of the newer ones are designed with this in mind, and it's less of a problem). Basically you wouldn't be able to tell until it breaks that minecraft had been hurting it.

I'd really like to know the general experience of someone owning a chrome book too - I can't imagine using a computer where you almost entirely use internet services, but by the sounds of it you -can- install some things on a hard drive.
