I actually wish more games had female main characters.
If I have to stare at an ass for 8 hours, I'd rather it be a woman's ass and not some drunk pill abuser's.
You're wrong. You know you're wrong. She suggested a feature similar to LA Noire's "skip combat" feature, to which nobody took offense, because she is trying to balance domestic responsibilities, work and free time.
And you think that justifies calling her a whore repeatedly in many words?
Don't sit here and tell me it isn't misogyny when you don't even know why you hate her.
Oh boy, this thread is such a clusterfuck.
I hate this argument that you can say whatever you like to a man and it's fine, but as soon as you insult a woman you're a sexist thug.
That's not equality, that's positive discrimination.
Pretty much every female character in that game has very limited to no sexual appeal. They are usually decently clothed and not overly endowed. They can wear full plate armor and bash heads in with warhammers. Some of the armor is a bit iffy in places, but it's probably the most gender-neutral out of any RPG I've seen in years.
Did anyone complain about that? Let me know if they did because I can't find anything.
Sexism works both ways too, by the way. Why do people take umbridge to women being presented as sexy and flirtatious dominatrixes in video games, but not with men being presented as jarheaded idiots that are only good for fighting in wars?
Oh right, positive discrimination, I forgot. In order to be equal, we treat one sex differently to the other. That makes sense
Men don't get called whores, sluts, bitches and all manner of misogynistic shit any time the internet at large flips its shit for no god damn reason.
Stop trying to flip this to suit your god damn persecution complex. Nobody is persecuting against you by saying you can't go around calling women whores.
"Anthropocentric bag of dicks" would qualify.
How many times have you been called that? Now compare that to the flood of sexist hatred toward one single woman.
Yeah, did you ever acknowledge that?
Also, I would like to address the Portal 2 and Chell being "sexualized" real quick.
I'm sorry, but I honestly don't think Chell has been intentionally sexualized in any way whatsoever with Portal 2.
This may come as a shock to some of you, but women do actually wear tanktops sometimes. Just like, and I know this is a mind-bender, but women generally don't like overheating and getting sweaty.
Think about that for a moment. Chell is doing nothing but constantly running and jumping through all these puzzles, never taking a break for a drink of water. We have absolutely no idea what the environmental conditions are like in Aperture Science, but they're probably at the most air-conditioned to a preferred temperature when idle.
On top of all of this, I am sure that jumpsuit is stuffy as fuck.
If you guys were in Chell's place, doing all this running and jumping in a breeze-less, at-most-average-room-temperature room, wearing a thick and stuffy jumpsuit, then chances are you guys would probably be getting uncomfortably warm.
And what do you do when you're uncomfortably warm, and don't have access to drinking water or air temperature control?
You take off some of your clothes.
I don't think Chell has been sexualized in any way in tying the top of her jumpsuit about her waste. She's not boosting a micro-bikini top or a lingerie bra or a thin-mesh shirt or anything like that - she's wearing an entirely casual and common tanktop.
Maybe none of you have ever gone outside and actually looked around in public places, but when it's warm out, women tend to wear tanktops.
I think any sexualization that people perceive in Chell is from the very fact she is a woman, because - and this is just another shocker, I know - women are sexually appealing to heterosexual men. It's almost like heterosexual individuals are biologically engineered to be sexually attracted to the opposite sex or something. Weird, I know!
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
I don't have a persecution complex, thanks, I just think it's a bit sexist to only complain about misogyny and not even mention misandry.
No offense meant, dude is smart as hell and, just as in this thread, he is typically right about most things, but he has an awful way of interacting with anyone who even dares to not see things from his perspective.
But for the purposes of concisely putting forward your points it just makes it look like you're trying to mask your opinion beneath pompous twaddle.
