I was almost sure that Skype for linux would cease since it's owned by Microsoft now, glad I was wrong.
I actually like the linux version more. It seems less bloated, if that makes any sense.
Fucking finally, sorry but the way it looked before confused me since I am used to Windows.
Ubuntu's repos still have 2.2, heh. Good to see it's been updated.
Is the version number related to the windows version in any way? I mean skype is at 5.9something already on windows![]()
Linux is a bit behind, mainly because it's not one of the major OS's out there and it's free.
My friend told me like 0,1% people in the world uses Linux (which I think more do) and even if it's a small percentage it's still a lot of people, so that's why major program's gets a Linux version. But it often will be "behind" when it comes to updating.
This was probably just for the advertising bit they did for the Windows client.
Not that I care about ads.
I'm sorry but your friend is full of shit. This applies to some software but good cross platform software is always kept in sync. And it's a lot more than 0.1%.
I don't know how exactly Microsoft runs the Skype division but nothing's really changed development wise. It's still developed by the same people. I guess it was just a profit/use of technology sort of thing rather than "oh I know how we can change it" type thing.
Does this one have the ads in it?
No, it does not oddly enough. I actually also like this better than the Windows version.
I know he is full of shit![]()
I'm getting an issue with it where if I try to view my notifications it just instantly closes, earlier it was working really well though. It feels like skype, unlike 2.2 which feels like it hasn't been touched since 2001.
I don't suppose anyone knows, if the project that was working on getting Linux running inside windows (andLinux?), can run Skype?
I don't like the Windows version.
Cygwin?
Installing dat' shit now.
God, it will be glorious!
The 5.10 version for Windows lets you use the compact view, which looks and feels just like the 4.0 for Linux. I'm impressed on both platforms. :)
It's estimated to be more than 10 times that percentage (~1.4%)![]()
I was wondering why I had a really old version, I haven't seen SkypeMe since like 2007![]()
