They did, only the console version came out on D3 launch so it wasn't much of a contest.

You said you don't give a shit about the story in a game. MP3 is a very heavily story-focused, so do the maths here.

You said you don't give a shit about the story. The story is what makes a game, so therefore, you don't give a shit about the game.

If Max Payne was random and had no story what-so-ever, just call it cod.
it is a story-based game
honestly, a lot of console gamers i know were really hyped for diablo 3 as well, they didn't even have computers that could handle it but still bought it
It's kind of fitting for max payne. Think about, in the whole series' life, the games have received great reviews from many reputable and credible reviewers and magazines, yet sold poorly.
It's quite sad when a brilliant and original game like this is so undersold while a game like call of duty now is almost yearly rehashed and released to record breaking sales.
This game is and was always going to be a fan service - it was never destined for mainstream appeal.
This is also bad news for my Take-Two stocks, but also great news because the price is now going to drop so I can buy some more in anticipation for Grand Theft Auto V.
I loved the first Max Payne wasn't really bothered about the seconde, but I may buy the third when I get paid just to see what it's like.
Dammit, none of the cracks work. I can't try the game before I buy.
Plus it's 60 fucking dollars, and I am not going to go on trailers and bribed critic's opinions. I mean why don't games have demos anymore? Bahh...

i'm not really surprised, I've noticed that i'm always playing with the same people online and very few new ones.
Then when those same "reputable and credible reviewers and magazines" give CoD a high score it's suddenly tin foil hat conspiracies.
Stop complaining that CoD sells more it sells to a different demographic that overlaps the same audience MP3 sells to.
I'm sure it's a fantastic shooter and all, but I don't pay $60 for a few hours of entertainment. I've bought exactly three full-priced games in the past 8 or 9 months (Skyrim, Dark Souls, and Dragon's Dogma) and that's only because I knew they'd last me a while.
MP3 is a good 8 hours of singleplayer with several different gamemodes that can make other playtroughs different and interesting and a multiplayer that can give countless hours of gameplay. MP3 is well worth the full price.
Flawless logic right there.
Yeah if I buy a full priced game it's either an RPG, Sandbox, or a game with lasting multiplayer.
I'm not one for games that are almost entirely scripted and linear.
Nothing wrong with those games but I just don't have the taste for them I guess.
I saw advertisement for the game but no commercials that showed what the game was about- if I didn't know what Max Payne was I'd think it was an upcoming movie from all the bus ads and uh- bus ads around Philly. I still have yet to see any gameplay actually- I haven't looked for any though.
8 hours is pretty good for a singleplayer shooter nowadays I guess, but it's rather meager considering the price.
Watching clips of the multiplayer just makes me want to play The Specialists.
I'll get around to buying the game some day (when I get a bigger hard drive or something, 30 GB jesus christ) but I just have a hard time believing any shooter is really worth $60.
The floods in Thailand means that hard drives are very expensive right now.
It's just not a Max Payne game, which drove Max Payne fans away (It's basically the B-K Nuts and Bolts of Max Payne, name it something else and it's great, but it just doesn't feel like the other games under the same IP), and it's not something many people remember.
You are missing out on a lot of legitimately good games by forsaking the shooting genre as a whole.
I'm not, I love shooters. I just don't pay $60 for them. I wait for inevitable sales.
And that is exactly what Max Payne 3's incredibly long and tedious cut-scenes need. They provide absolutely no freedom whatsoever and it becomes a really big annoyance when the game takes away all the controls just to make you watch a 5 second cut-scene.
Edited:
The gameplay is fucking amazing, but Rockstar have really messed up on a lot of things.
You're pretty much the reason origin is so stuck up about sales
"cheapens IP!!!1"
The cut scenes are unskippable because the game loads during them. I would much rather have unskippable cutscenes than skippable ones with a bunch of loading screens between.
Some of the really long cutscenes, I know that it isn't taking me that long to load, and it still doesn't let me skip them.
Except those were in 2011; hard drive prices are hardly absurd. Bought a 2TB Caviar Black for $150, and a 1TB Caviar Blue for $80.
Remember though, these sales numbers only account for console sales and not PC sales. The PC version launched in June. If you want full sales figures, we need to wait until next month to see the PC ones. I have a feeling it sold pretty well on the PC. Although, that still won't solve the problem of the game being only half of LA Noire's console opening.
It might be entertaining for the first couple of times, but if you keep dying over and over, then have to watch the same cutscenes over, and over, and over again, it gets annoying.
I pre-ordered the PC version and never played the original Max Payne or Max Payne 2. I can't believe some people say this game doesn't deserve a $60 price tag.
The pre-order came with Max Payne 1 and 2, and a copy of LA Noire. Besides the console version, the PC version is completely worth the value, and the pre-order on Steam was one of the best I've purchased. Sad to see the sales be less than LA Noire, which I thought wouldn't sell well because it wasn't as action oriented as most Rockstar Games.
None the less, Max Payne 3 is worth the price. The singleplayer is amazing and has plenty of replay value with the Arcade mode.
Even without the multiplayer I would say it's worth $60, and the multiplayer itself is fantastically fun. With the DLC coming out over the summer, I say the game will sell over a longer period and reach some sale success later in its lifetime.
max payne 3's story sucked so bad
1 and 2's were dumb, but at least they weren't stupid and convoluted for no reason
There are repacks out there that are only 10 GB. But yeah, people still pirated Rage even though it was pretty large, I don't think people have trouble downloading this large of a game.
but unlike 90% of games it was actually fun to play so whatever!
this was spose to be up there ^^^
I was pretty bad at the game and normally there is a checkpoint after the long cutscenes. I never really had any issues with it.
Or they just like CoD games more than Max Payne.
But no woops I forgot preferences make people stupid.
It pretty much NEVER puts checkpoints before a cutscene. Maybe sometimes you'll have to watch a 2 second set up cutscene but never anything more.
It's shame,
Rockstar labours incredibly to make this game probably the most optimized game on PC in a long time.
Rockstar gives full 1080p videos, no one complains about the 720p quality cutscenes on their 1080p screens
No actual loading screens because you're watching a well-made cutscene
Rockstar gives Midnight Club for free (if you like their page on Steam before release), and MP1-2, LA Noire for pre-order bonuses (apparently, didn't know about that)
A very enjoyable and well-lengthed singleplayer
Entertaining multiplayer for some extra re-playability
Well narrated story and fun environments
It's a damn shame it did so poorly.
MP1 and 2's story were not dumb in any way and MP3's story wasn't stupid or convoluted at any point. There wasn't much to it but it wasn't dumb, the stuff that was there made sense and were easy to follow.
sorry i should of said it was just my opinion
sincire
The reason the walk-around-during-cutscene stuff wouldn't work for Max Payne is that the protaganist actually does stuff other than stand around looking gormless during these cutscenes.
but yeah it's probably the only game i've played this year that was enjoyable to actually play
so there's that
ok i'm gonna stop relying on automerge
There is literally NO game this year that has come close to rivaling Max Payne 3 in EVERY department. I don't know how it sold so badly, but that a massive fucking shame because it's the best game this year, hell in the last 3 years I'd be hard pressed to find a game that has been better than Max Payne 3
Edited:
3 minutes for 30 gigs isn't bad at all.
IMO, I'd say Deus Ex, Dark Souls, and Dead Space 2 compete for me.
But I agree, it was a blast
Just realized three of my all time favourite games start with D
