Don't be ridiculous, there's no way you could afford that with only 1.5 million.

I like how the guy only gets up to 15 months in prison for this, but you can get over two years for drug possession. GG, American legal system.

If only he understood that glitch gave him more money he would have ever won gambling, he would've been out of there so fast... only to be caught anyway.

Quite frankly I would've just told the administrator of the ATM that it broke and gave them the money back. Not worth the risk.
This, because not only does it feel good to be honest, but when's the last time you heard about someone doing this and getting away with it?

Well it would look a bit suspicious seeing a guy walk out of a casino with $1.5 million in cash to spend elsewhere.

how do ATM's even malfunction this badly though, with that much money at stake you would think they would spend some time making sure their money can't be stolen this easily.

Like 1.5 million means anything for a bank, and they wouldn't give a shit about your honesty.

Heck, if i had to steal something, i would probably do it from a bank.

Didn't know ATMs held that much money in their cash storage. Must be because it's at a casino.

For some reason it's hard to comprehend why this is illegal. It's the ATM's fault, and no one else would not do the same
This is generally not theft, but unjust enrichment. Both are offenses though.

This, because not only does it feel good to be honest, but when's the last time you heard about someone doing this and getting away with it?

Well probably only people with a physihed CC could do it and get away with it :P

I'd do the exact same, I know it'd be tempting to go on a complete buying spree with the money but in the long run, it wouldn't be good sitting in prison for 15 or so months and the threat you need to pay the banks up running through my mind..

    All railwork DLC's.
    off da rails

I'm curious as to how a single ATM was stocked with over $1.5 million.

If I'd gotten that much out of one, the first two things I would've done was buy a house and a DeLorean.
Yeah, personally wonder how that's possible too... Don't know too much about ATM's though.

I remember when I got two cokes from a vending machine instead of one, I guess that's as close I'll get to feeling like this man.

I wonder what he'd do if he ever won the jackpot and won that amount, just gamble it away?
the vending machines in our highschool cafeteria were always slightly broken. I'm not sure if I was just always extremely lucky or something, but it seems every other lunch when I would buy a 20oz of pop I would get like 1 or 2 extra with it. Buy 1 get 2 free.

There are those one in a million glitches that can't be predicted or even recreated under normal circumstances (like a glitch tied to a certain date or time).

Since the article doesn't tell us how exactly the ATM glitched up. I would possibly guess that maybe the ATM wasn't reporting back to the bank's computer that the amount had been withdrawn.

If that happens it would be common sense for the person who programmed the software to stop dispensing money when connection cannot be made to the bank server.

Lucky, my departments vending machine has been refusing to vend for the past year, despite clearly being stocked.

And another one of our machines, the coca-cola machine with the robotic arm, periodically goes on a rampage and starts wizzing the arm around like crazy, flinging random bottles into the bottom of the machine.

because you're stealing the banks money
But if someone sells something on ebay, like a vault, and this vault contains money when it is sold. The buyer keeps the vault and the money. Its the sellers fault.

Same thing here, the man wanted money and this money had more come with it. Yet its not the banks fault? If they wanted this not to happen they should do routine checks.

There is a better way to represent these two things but I can't think of one.

Of course, I can already tell my logic is flawed (i'm serious) so can someone point it out?

Saying this shouldn't be punished is like saying that if someone's front door is open, anyone can just walk in and take anything they want from the house without being punished. Just because there's a possibility to do so, doesn't mean it's instantly legal.

Reminds me of the time a vending machine refused to give a can of coke, and instead dispensed 12 bottles of water.

What I don't get is how he did it? If he took 1.5 million dollars from the ATM, that would equal 15.000 100 dollar bills. I might not know the biggest denomination in the dollar system, but if 100 dollars is it, then how could he possibly get 1.5 million dollars without using one or two big bags?

I mean, 1 million dollars fill this much:
