No band members were believed to be on stage at the time of the collapse, but concert crew were working on stage when it fell shortly after 4 p.m.
Radiohead cancelled their performance.
"Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Radiohead show at Downsview Park tonight has been cancelled," the band said in a message on its website. "Fans are advised not to make their way to the venue.
"The collapse occurred as thousands of fans were already lining up outside.
Toronto police said they were not confirming the death and would offer an update in the near future.
The collapse is the most recent in a string of incidents at Canadian concerts over the past several years.
Last year at Ottawa's Bluesfest, the stage collapsed during a Cheap Trick performance, injuring three.
In 2009, the main stage collapsed at the Big Valley Jamboree in Camrose, Alta. One person was killed and 15 were injured.
