Wow, this was my first day in DayZ, and it is excellent. My first lives weren't so long and prosperous, but once I got a hatchet, I went on a zombie killing spree. I killed one survivor who didn't respond to what I said, but then I died. However, I managed to find a Lee-Enfield and scavenge some more, but then I died from a bandit. So far, it's great.

I certainly hope side chat doesn't get re-enabled on the FP server. It ruins the whole feel of isolation in the game. Leave the annoying chat for the mumble.
Plus it caters to both wants this way. You don't want side chat? Good! It's not on. You want it? Go to the mumble! Same effect!

I couldn't really care about crosshairs, since the server hasn't had them on once, so I've gotten used to no crosshairs.

But third person, as much as I use it and love it, I think it should be disabled. It is incredibly amazing, and yes, technically, since everyone has the ability to turn it on there is no unfair advantage against other players, you still gain an unfair advantage over the game. You can easily see over hills, into buildings, over ledges, around corners, and it also ruins the "zombie survival" aspect of things.

And no, I'm not one of those "hardcore or you're a baby" guys. DayZ isn't even that hard, the only reason it is hard is because of the zombies pants on head retarded zig zag pathing system, and bugs and bullshit like 1 hit broken legs and 1 hit bleeding out from 12000 to 0.

And have you guys even spent a large amount of time in first person? It's fucking amazing. It gets you immersed into the game so quickly it's not even funny.

Well, that was a little over the top.

I personally agree with That Ninja. The immersion from first person is amazing, and the ability to talk to only those within 20-30 meters makes for more fun and immersion. But all of this is in my opinion of course, and I do not want to engage in your discussion.

Close steam, run it as administrator, start Arma 2, go into a mission/tutorial, quit, do the same with Operation Arrowhead, and it should work.

At least that's what seems to have fixed it for a few friends of mine.

Tonight was a good night. Managed to find a map, military flash light, new hatchet, Cayote pack, G17 with 5 mags, Scoped M14 with 5 mags, 2 morphine. I also was able to keep an AKM with 3 clips as well as silenced ammo; MP5SD, M9SD, and Stanag SD. Sadly my room for food and other supplies is much tighter now.

I still need to find some night vision goggles so that my night raids are easier, work ending at 1am means night time only play decently often. The G17's flashlight helps lots though. GPS or a compass would also make life easier.

Good point, but the thing about online forums is that no one has any discussion etiquette or are just downright mean. You can always walk away from a discussion, but then you'd be considered the "loser" and who wants that?

People just need to be nicer, accept that people have different opinions and move on.

After seeing the drama that erupted after the (short-lived) release of the singleplayer mission file, I decided to look into hosting details. They're ridiculously fucking strict, to the point that paying to host a server seems more a nuisance than anything else. Before it became so popular, they demanded that server providers be willing to divulge remote connection info at their request, or else lose their server's "valid" status. What's the point of hosting if you are given absolute minimum flexibility and have to cater to the developer's every wish in order to maintain what little control you do have?
