When I saw this thread I was considering to join the server sometime but now I can't be arsed for that. I want some good roleplay but I don't want to work for everything again. (Items and shit)
The two years at Taco'N Banana was already a pain in the ass. And now don't come at me and tell me TnB sucks because I know that already. I left them because of that.

We're not going made with the seriousness. You don't have to write 3000 word applications. We're just sick of mingebags joining and acting like complete idiots. In DarkRP it was easy to propkill, prop climb, prop push.

And you think switching to another game base is going to fix that? no gamemode is going to be good, nexus is a fucking clone of dark rp. so theres no way your going to fix it being a bad thing to use.

Actually, yes it does fix that. Actually do some research before you say it's a clone of DarkRP when it clearly isn't.

When I join, it gives a few lua errors and in red text at the top of the screen it says something about not having the cache and the server being misconfigured. The gamemode appears to be the base gamemode, with no commands at all. What do I have to download? I downloaded the map, and sat through the long download of the models/textures.

Never played RP before, what do I have to do to get in there? Make an application on the site and that's it?

You only need to apply to be part of Science or Security. Janitor, Technician and a few are available with no applications.

This is a great server! The admins are nice and the playerbase is also nice.
Even though I was stuck as a cook for a while I'm applying for a scientific job now on their forums. Hopefully I'll be accepted!

Shame I don't have HL:S. I can't see the monsters or use the server when it uses HL:S maps. (Like it is at the time of this post: c3a2c).I bought Half Life 1 instead of Source..

The server shouldn't have been on any half life source maps. Must have left on votemap

Server can get really bad without admins on.. I just got on, and within 10 minutes I saw:
Somebody spawn a turret and kill a guard with it (why do you allow turrets to be spawned in the first place?)
Somebody spam the alarm, break the tram, and release the poison zombie in the Biolab
Somebody spam the AMS and causing a resonance cascade

Yeah this scientist and HEV scientist told everyone to votemap. A tech and I both refused, so they came into the tech lab and threw PHX bombs at us. Shame I didn't record it or anything as proof. They didn't kill us, just broke most of our stuff. Someone else eventually voted for their map, which was c3a2c.

It seems the server crashes often and doesn't come back up for a while. How long does watchdog or whatever you call it take to bring it back up?

Usually it comes straight back up but there's a weird problem going on where the server lags like crap and the console is spamming "netportClosed".

Alright cool. It happened before around 2 or 3pm (EST). It's just annoying when it crashes while I'm in the middle of something, and never comes back up (within reasonable amount of time) so I go and play something else, only to stop after a while to go and rejoin, and it not be up.
But I really love the server, apart from the alarm spam/AMS spam that happens when admins are not on and whatnot. Still amazing, still going to play.

Looking up it's apparently a problem with pcmod, i've disabled networks which cause it aswell as dynamite etc which I already blocked but somehow is unblocked.

Did you block turrets as well? I've seen people spawning them and killing people with them.

I had a tech build shit out of combine tech. COMBINE TECH!. I told him in LOOC to remove it because its really out of place, and the combine didn't exist in that universe in '95. "but i always make future computer".

On the bright side, I made a cool thing using the GPU for the server, but it seems only I can see it... Anyone know how to force everyone else to see it so they can bask in it's glory? (I read that it is just clientside, but surely I can somehow stream it to other clients?!)

Taada! It's a GPU that draws the- well you can see. By the way, the time is current. It's the server's time. (Not the ingame roleplay time, the time on the server's computer. It's GMT). Thanks to CiD and Black Phoenix in the wiremod IRC. CiD helped with the time part, and Black Phoenix told me the command to get other players to see it. For those who have problems seeing it.... (Read: Everyone because the GPU doesn't auto stream to clients, and only dumps it's data when you ask for it)
I put a sign up saying "To see the screen type "wire_gpu_resendcache" in console." (The paper). Had to secure it with slightly visible cans to prevent it from dropping and dicks from stealing the paper, because they spawn as world props.
The tech job is fun!

AKA: If you haven't tried this server, fucking do it. It's awesome.
(Apart from the dicks who SPAM THE AMS TO SPAWN CASCADES EVERY DAY making you lose all your hard work.)

Uh? I use no such thing? I assumed it was part of the gamemode. Ever since my first time joining I have seen people like that. It doesn't do it in any other server... You mean it doesn't for you guys?
Hmm strange, I think it was part of this useful script pack I downloaded. I did it simply because of the clientside vote feature, didn't know it had all this other shit. I removed it. Strange how it never 'activated' on other servers. Thanks for telling me that it wasn't part of the gamemode. Gees was that annoying while playing. I thought it was strange, and since it only ever did it on this server, I thought it was the server doing it.

it's unclear exactly what i need to play this, just gmod?
I'm new to the whole electronic role play scene but it seems like something i could get into.
this especially, the fact that a resonance cascade could happen any time and everyone needs to evac is awesome.
also what times are people generally on?

Gmod, any source game to be technical, however I suggest Half-Life 2 and CSS. HL2 because EVERYONE uses those props, and CSS because it's common for those to be used. Half-Life Source would be nice, but its only needed to see the monsters. I don't have it and I have no problems. It seems most people are on during the day, around noon EST.

Half-Life 2 models/materials/other things are included with the source engine, so all he really needs is CS:S.

So my friend and I just joined the server today, and so far we've been spawn killed for a good 10 minutes or so (him mostly, I joined a while after) by a gargantuan that somehow made it's way topside. Can an admin get on and fix this please?

There isn't usually in the early hours of the morning (UK Time) so things like that will happen. The gargantua has been removed in this next update. We've also added alot more to xen aswell as a HECU barracks and physical course. Aswell as a load of other stuff.
