Now I know from my time in Facepunch, that most of the members here dislike RP and HL2RP due to several things. This thread isn't forcing you to play it, so read along if you like.
We're a starting community with a recently launched HL2RP, we banded together after a community we tried together had a bad owner, so we left and started our own. Unlike most HL2RP servers you come across, you don't donate for admin, or apply for power. All of our admins are hand-picked, great roleplayers and good people. Our server has the works of HL2RP, like the Civil Worker's Union, Vortiguants, and coming soon, scanners. We already have a lot of our factions threads (such as radio codes for the Combine Civil Authority) already done or in-progress, so if you've ever played HL2RP, you'll really enjoy us!
And as an added bonus, a custom map is being developed for our server and our server only!

That is actually incorrect, there was a beta rp map for a community...fuck I can't find it but it when loaded on a server would say You do not have permission to use this map. And random props would be on the map and it would break the skybox so it wouldn't be wise to use on a public server. I don't know how they did it.
Anyways, I am the owner of this server and I want everyone to come out and try the server it is really fun and I think you would enjoy the server.

The people who are the authority on the server should not be allowed to be the authority. Poor roleplaying, they all fail to inform about anything and overall just bad roleplayers.

You have any evidence or examples of that? If not, I'm afraid I have to disagree with you, I've been on the server nearly the whole time since launch, and no funny business has occurred.

May I ask why you're doing HL2 RP? Is it because that's all you know and can't think of anything original. You know what? Don't answer that question, I just answered it for you. Seriously, I'm not trying to run your community here, but at least do something halfway original. There's hundreds of roleplay themes you could be doing, but instead resort to HL2 RP. You're no different than the other 25+ HL2 RP servers out there. Regardless of what you're running, I just don't see how Games in Progress is a good place to adverstise a serious roleplay community. The only things here are shitty Minecraft servers.
Garry just needs to add the Servers section back to the GMod section. That would be so much better for the community.
Edit: Nevermind. Garry finally figured out the only thing that was being posted in this section was Minecraft shit. Disregard anything I said about Minecraft servers. You might actually get a few players. That doesn't mean Garry shouldn't add the servers section back. But meh.

Which is exactly why HL2 RP is shit. If you do something to make interesting roleplay, it's considered minging. On the other hand, if the community allows players to create roleplay (which I rarely see), people bitch because it goes against canon.

Ha. You're funny. You're also right - it isn't forcing me to play it. But does that mean I should just stand idle as more and more people flock to it because HL2 RP is the only thing they know how to do? No. But are you seriously disagreeing that HL2 RP is unoriginal? I'd like to know how long you've been roleplaying. No one is forcing me to play it, but the sheer amount of idiots that play it makes my head spin.
Also, you really put me in my place when you told me to shut the fuck up. I think I'll just go be emo and cut myself. :(

I couldn't give two shits about HL2RP and i'm not going to debate if it's original or not and why the hell do you care if people flock to it? They'll soon find out for themselves if they like it not. Also, I'm sure joining HL2rp servers isn't the only thing people know how to do, in fact, I'd be surprised if anyone joined the server.

I care because some people (including myself) actually think of a good canon and all that good stuff. When someone puts an HL2 RP server up, it not only lessens the amount of roleplayers willing to try something new, but it also gives the roleplay community a bad name. Look at Facepunch for example. I understand people will find out if they like it or not, but when the servers list is full of nothing but HL2 RP, it makes it harder for people to find other servers. A lot of old roleplayers have probably quit for that exact reason - it's just too damn difficult to find a community that isn't HL2 RP. Also, regarding your comment stating players know more than HL2 RP... You're right, some of them do. On the other hand, most don't. If you go ask the average HL2 RPer what Severance is, they'll say they don't know. You know why? Because everyone flocks to HL2 RP and can't/wont try anything new because that's all they know, or they can't find a server running an original idea.
Edit: Also, are you just really tired of hearing the whole HL2 RP thing? Because we have a right to be a little ticked off at those who run it. Next time, don't be so hostile with your comments. Just saying.

I can see your perspective about where things are going and how all you see is HL2RP.
If we were to randomly launch a severance RP server it would be popular for a couple of days, then the RPers would return to catalyst or hellzone for their HL2RP.

And by the way, the capital letters and full stops question is for IC PURPOSES. Example: You don't put (: in IC chat, but it can be done in OOC chat. Determining that the RP skills of someone who is busy and has to type a quick answer in OOC chat isn't right.I´m about to test to find out how bad this one is. Wish me luck.

Nonetheless in what way does this effect your role-play? And why don't you message an admin in game instead of saying that the server is shit because he is trying to make a character's sentence look different.
Also, if you all are so against hl2rp and insist on a custom canon then please suggest some elements. Saying something is wrong and not providing a way to improve or fix it is pointless. It is as well frustrating to hear people bitching about ooc grammar, its ooc it necessarily doesn't directly effect your roleplaying in any way. So what someone makes a grammar error once in a while, your just using it as a way to bitch about a problem that really isn't a problem.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, even if I did suggest something to you, you probably wouldn't do it. It's just the way 95% of server owners think. In any case, it's not my responsibility to think of something for you. I had to think of my own canon with a friend. A lot of people liked it because it was unique. It was a lot like a conspiracy/zombie/bunker roleplay that evolved into a full-blown zombie roleplay down the line. The only reason it didn't work out was because I didn't have the players to support it and some jackass got pissed because he couldn't have sexRP, hence, we lost half the server.

What if he's not apart of the 95%? It's suggestions, SUGGESTIONS, not "Hey what should we do next? Your call." It is good for community owners to take suggestions, you probably lost players because you think you are right all the time judging from your posts.

No. Stop trying to act like you know shit. I lost players because I didn't have the players to support it. Let me tell you why I didn't. There's this friend I have. One day we were in a Skype call and we wanted to get people in my friend's server that I co-owned at the time. He literally never had people no matter how much he tried. So, this friend that I have messaged a bunch of his friends, and in maybe a few minutes, the server had fifteen people on. The moral of the story? It's now what you know, it's who you know. I can code this badass gamemode, but not have any interested friends to play it. For that, my server will not become populated. You're seriously dumb. I never once said I was right all the time. What in my posts even insinuates that? Suggestions don't mean shit if you're not willing to act on them. Sure, suggestions are good, but you said it yourself. You're not going to do it. Afterall, it's just a suggestion, right?
My argument isn't invalid whatsoever. Maybe if you could tell me how my argument is invalid instead of trying to act like an internet badass and tell me I lost players because of something that isn't even true.

Wow this is a thread advertising a server running a game mode which some like and some do not like. End this argument? Honestly the whole argument itself is invalid. I highly doubt you will change anyone's disposition of the game or lack of shit given to your annoyance with how many people are starting HL2RP servers. I'm sure we will see plenty more down the road, and there is simply no way around it unless this whole section or advertising permissions are removed. Come on...

Horrible server. Some dickshit admin kicked me for running. Nobody except the admin on observer was around, and I wasn't avoiding RP by running, so why the fuck would you kick me for running? Not trying to add to the shit storm that is going on, but if your going to host HL2RP, atleast make it original. HL2RP is based 4 years before the events of HL2, so you don't need to follow the canon as much as there is no exact lore for in between HL1 and HL2. The only lore we get in between is a very nice timeline with predictions. And now that I think about it, someone bloody make a HL1RP schema. It would actually be original.
