The rights to a Star Wars persistent online game (aka MMO) were owned exclusively by SOE for years until last year when it was going to expire and they chose to not give it to SOE because their game had been virtually dead for years. It's hard to blame the franchise holders for wanting to pick SWTOR, the game that got over 1 million pre-orders, over the game that was languishing on a few thousand people a month. Not to mention the reputation.

So TOR was indirectly responsible for SWG going down if only because it was a Star Wars themed MMO. It has nothing to do with game quality and everything to do with franchise image and sales.

I really do miss SWG to be honest. Going off in the middle of nowhere where nothing relevant is around and building a house was actually fun to me. I loved Endor.
