That's a rather bad example/counterpoint/whatever. He'd get a bollocking from his CO if he decided to carve shit onto his gun; none of the equipment a soldier is issued belongs to them, and thus they aren't allowed to do anything they please with them, especially not their weapon.

I don't know how much you know about the military but the very first thing you learn is that you as an individual are worth less than dog shit and the military structure as a whole is worth far more than you, the one and only call you are allowed to your parents you have to address them as sir and ma'am, and instead of using 'I' you use 'this private'

sorry if some couple of thousands of years of refining military doctrine slightly outweigh your opinion
