actually I think knowing that your soldiers are free to enjoy whatever they want would make me appreciate that whole "freedom" thing a whole lot more.
People are probably more comfortable with big burly men protecting their beautiful red white and blue rather than a pack of sissies watching rainbow ponies.
    Just saiyan.

Also non-authorized. Yet nobody complains about it.

I know nothing but probably because that's a dark one that kinda fits. It's not a bright-ass reference to a children's tv show. And how do you know just because he's wearing it that it's okay for him to wear it and he hasn't gotten complaints?

    Counter point: Pokemon.
Not sure I've ever seen bands of grown men throwing pokeballs and reciting stuff from the game/show. When I was a kid though I think I brought a toy pokeball to daycare once and some obese kid took it and whipped it at a concrete wall while yelling "PIKACHU, GO". What the fuck man.

    It gets a bit ridiculous.
You don't even see kids making up such overreactive fandom towards the cartoons they like, let alone grown men going to such extremes as sewing that stuff and carving pony stuff from the show on their rifles from a show for little girls.

Or so you would expect people not to do such things...
Agree'd, I doubt many of them actually have a sound state of mind to begin with; For example, I have a friend who changed his first and middle name to Fluttershy and Brony, and never stops talking about the fucking show.

they're soldiers. if they weren't big burly men, they wouldn't have made it through training, nor would they be soldiers in the first place.

Clearly the US Army lacks discipline and structure if soldiers are modifying equipment without permission. The British Army would never allow that to even happen, especially rainbow stickers.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be rated a bunch of dumbs for the following comparion, but who gives a shit.

Why the this a big deal? So what, they like a children's show, one of them put a pony patch on in a convention, not on the battlefield, not in boot camp, but at a convention. A convention for bronies. For some reason I doubt he's going to charge onto the battlefield with one.

Second, its not like suddenly being a brony makes you combat ineffective. The guy isn't going to turn around to another soldier while under fire and talk about how "Twilight Sparkle is so glamorous" or something, just like how a gay soldier isn't going to talk about banging dudes while he's being shot at. I'm seeing a lot of rhetoric being thrown around in this thread which is frighteningly similar to the rhetoric used about trying to ban gays from the military. "They're going to be afraid of fighting", or "this is the pussification of the military", or "they'll distract other guys in combat scenarios".

I don't even like MLP, but the backlash towards some guys who like a show joining the military is absurd.

Exactly what I was talking about. This is something anti-gay people would say about gays in the military.

    Counter point: Pokemon.
The pokemon craze was mainly focused within its specific target audience, the biggest reason older people are into it is because of nostalgia. It started as a videogame and it was something unique when it came out, so it's popularity makes complete sense. All the merch including card games and such strongly appealed to its target audience as well. Add to that the fact there wasn't really a brony equivalent for pokemon where fans would treat the whole thing like a sort of cult, and you can't really compare the two

Because it was a unauthorized sign, by a brony, reflecting something in regards to it, that was added to a uniform? And second off; Why are you asking me? I didn't start this thread.

That's a rather bad example/counterpoint/whatever. He'd get a bollocking from his CO if he decided to carve shit onto his gun; none of the equipment a soldier is issued belongs to them, and thus they aren't allowed to do anything they please with them, especially not their weapon.

It can be literal or not, depending on whether the OP feels it's fit or not.

My point in starting this thread wasn't to discuss the patch, it was to start a shitstorm about MLP and ride it.
