Don't call it "Cry of Fear: Source", seems to me like an attempt to try and use CoF's popularity to get your mod lots of attention and downloads.

I didn't like CoF. It relied to much on jump scares and not on any actual horror.

I'm not entirely sure saying it's CRy Of Fear: Source a good point, CoF relied on cheap "scares", the actual "scary" moments, were not actually scary, at all.

Even the atmosphere wasn't there, and the monsters were.. Too dumb to be afraid of.

I can really only recall 2 real jump scares (as in screamer) from CoF. I haven't beat it yet though

While that's true, the game retained an oppressive, lonely, dark atmosphere quite well and very nicely tied together it's main theme into monster design and imagery.

I don't know about that. there were about six real jump-scares through the game, but they all really did make people jump. I guess you've got to ask what counts as a jump-scare; Amnesia had numerous scares similar to the ones in CoF (hell, the enemies were practically programmed to jump the player in both games), but whereas Amnesia was lauded for the atmosphere and tension, people just seem to really dislike the way CoF leads up to things.

I think I can confidently say Cry of Fear had a really good atmosphere, and while the plot was simplistic and - dare I say - shitty, there's actually a lot of symbolism laced in and it can get surprisingly meta at times. also, the unlockable Doctor's Story was incredibly tense.

so you want the first half to be a little scary, and then the second half to be a generic shooter with the lights turned off? good choice....wait no bad

I liked the pacing of Nightmare House 2. Cry of Fear was too boring to me. And it better not be like half the new mods where it's dark rooms with scary sounds playing. That seems to be a new trend.

    Why does he despise Grey?

Also CoF is really fucking good, and Grey looks really good, why must we compare them. I mean they're both great games(well I assume Grey will be)

ruMpel has always seemed like something of a dick to me to be honest, he seems to get angry over fairly trivial things. I think all the praise for AoM might have gone to his head a bit, brilliant mod though it is.

just proves my point really. I can see the similarities, but ruMpel is as paranoid as he is desperate. it's kind of like how Apple makes the most generic-y generic phone ever, then they act surprised when there's a similar product on the market.

Here's the criteria for a "clone" in their eyes:

And here's the features of what they have the same as Cry of Fear.
    1. New monsters, no reskins & workarounds.
    2. 8 new weapons, guns with ironsight.
    3. Hardcore Mode woth extra monsters and modified maps. (Like Nightmare Mode perhaps?)
    4. Totally new maps, textures & prop models.
    5. New Story with 2 Endings. (Cry of Fear has 5 endings. )
    6. New GUI, sounds and particle.

So since Grey has custom content and multiple endings, it's a clone? Doesn't make any fucking sense plus it's REALLY broad criteria. I have played CoF and Grey. Rumpel and the rest of the people being idiots on that thread are just paranoid.
Sure, similar PR tricks like a progress bar and donator benefits, but who give a damn whether or not Grey does that or not?

I really don't understand why ruMpel is so butthurt about Grey. It's a free modification that isn't making money, and we're (the developers) not cashing out on its popularity like he is with official mod merchandise and etc. We haven't stolen a single asset and the only similarities lie in the horror genre. He says we stole environments, ideas, and etc, but it's not like Cry of Fear had the most original horror settings of all time. I could go and accuse CoF of stealing environments and themes from Silent Hill, Condemned, etc. (basically ANY horror game in a dark city) but I won't since those locations are horror staples. Our weapons are different, GUI is different, and story is different. Given, we do have a same voice actor, but it's not like Stig is exclusive to CoF and can't voice act for other mods. Rumpel also uses the progress bar thing a lot in his arguments, but come on, is he REALLY trying to own the concept of a progress bar?

The sad thing is that we haven't said anything negative to ruMpel or about Cry of Fear in general; this is all unprovoked harrassment that reaches our team through ModDB, Steam, and elsewhere. Plus, he is using his influence and contacting all the popular "Let's Play" people on YouTube, trying to tell them to not play the mod. As far as ruMpel goes, he has confirmation bias, and since he hates our mod and mod team, he will see similarities wherever he can and call it a "clone."

So cry of fear is really a copy of sven co-op then, what with them having new weapons and monsters, donator benefits, hardcore difficulties

i mean, that's the criteria for a copy, right?

RuMpel is just pulling stuff out his ass because he's really paranoid for some reason. he seems to think that everyone's just trying to get a hold on his ~horror mod crown~, like how famous people are paranoid of their friends because they think everyone's trying to ride their coattails to fame and fortune.
