Balancing NS2 is really hard, because even if a team is OP, if the players in your team has low skills, you'll lose none the less.
None of the video shown in TB's footage displayed Marines with Jetpack and flamethrower/Grenade launcher combos. When a marine has those, he can easily destroy a hive on his own.
Aliens can win easily early if the marines all spread out too soon and a skulk rush ends it all. However, mid-game, marines can overtake it easily if they know what they're doing and their commander is competent. End-game is generally the hardest to balance, because you'll have Aliens with Onos charging into bases, but you'll also have 4 marines flying around with grenade launchers insta-gibbing entire rooms.
The only thing I'd see that makes the marine worse than alien is the lack of the Exosuit so far (Super armor + dual miniguns)
Well according to the devs, pre-orders are up 2600%
Good fade is damn impossible to kill. Saw one guy with like 25-1 stats playing fade and damn he was all over the place picking up everyone who tried to leave base alone. And even if you went out with other guys he could pick someone and then disappear again.
A fade goes down with 2 - 3 shotgun blasts. Blame your team for having terrible aim and your Commander for not upgrading armor.
Fade can easily take out one or two marines
If there are 3+ marines, fade is screwed
Guys, as someone who actually has the game, I can confirm that both teams were just nerfed in the last patch. Now the Marines are only slightly weaker than the aliens, rather than much more so.
They seem to nerf the shit out of the turrets every patch too. Now they can't shoot for shit and almost never fire.
This game has always had a steep learning curve.
The fades in this are way easier to kill compared to NS1 IMO, NS1 fades with metabolize and the double damage upgrade were just insane.
Then once you get 3 hives and acid rockets it was GG.
Marines are worse off right now because they dont have any real way to deal with Onos but thats going to change once they get the Exo suit and heavy machine guns in.
Grenade launchers take out an Onos easily
I am all for that. Static defenses are no way fun to play against. Though entire whip forests look hilarious.
Nothing like how the HMGs will though.
The grenade launchers are mainly for structures.
Im thinking about picking this up. Should i purchase it now?
What is the problem with Total Biscuit anyway, I mean I get he was a bit critical or rude to some fan at some point but is that any reason to not enjoy his content? I mean there's certain artists who I despise but I enjoy the music they put out none the less. Why can't the same work for content like this, TB regardless of what you think puts out high quality videos not the crappy Tobuscus obnoxious video or PewDiePies horrid let's plays.
I don't really see the necessity in getting involved in pointless drama and gossip. Especially considering this video, I wouldn't have known about Natural Selection 2 previously, and it shows in the rapid increase in sales the game just got. Even if the guy was a bit of a douche at some point why do people feel the need to berate him constantly, get over it, from what I read he just got fed up of fans hassling him after stating he doesn't take requests. But I guess the internet just breeds drama and they can't let stuff like this go.
Also that is his normal voice, you can watch him on the Planetside 2 Beta where he talks or on The Game Station podcast, it certaintly isn't forced. Watch his previous videos aswell he had a slightly higher pitched voice but pretty much the same sound, his voice has just clearly got lower as he's aged.
It depends if your computer can handle it, at the moment you need a fairly good computer to run it, as it's not very good optimized yet. But if you got the hardware, sure.
For those who can answer, how "playable" is the beta anyways?
Nope.
Edited:
Turrets are worthless right now. They do barely any damage.
Edited:
It's very playable. But balance is a bit of an issue imo.
It is really fun but you need a good pc, it's really badly optimized
even though TB is an annoying prick it's cool he's given the game some more attention
Jesus christ, I don't care about what you think, or anyone else thinks, of TotalBiscuit. Just discuss the fucking video and the content that's in it.
totalbiscuit is in the video
So now that facepunch knows about it anyone willing to make a facepunch server?
I'd pre-order but I'm not a big fan of team based games unless I put in the time to find a decent player base. Sucks losing because your team is bad.
well last i recall the natural selection fanbase was pretty small but dedicated. i don't know if that has changed/is now going to change
The community is great, every server I have played on is helping new players, all the older players are just helping everyone else because they want the game to succeed.
What did the frontiersman say to his partner upon walking into an infested sector?
"Oh noes!"
Just to show this to people.

I WANT THE COMMANDER VIDEO! :(
Pre-ordering the fuck out of this when I can.
That makes two of us, and I'm installing the beta now.
Edited:
And it's done 9 minutes later. Good game!
I bought the game the moment it could be preordered/purchased. Not really because I wanted the beta, but more because I wanted to support the devs that made Natural Selection 1. Easily the best mod for Half-Life (IMO, anyway).
Cynicism aside, TB can be a massive dick sometimes. He's particularly known for his no holds barred trolling on forums and twitter. Fortunately, that seems to have subsided somewhat after he moved to the States. Reuniting with his wife mellowed him out a bit. Guess he really just needed to get laid.
Might pick this up, looks fun as hell. I love the idea of the lights going out and stuff, adds to it a lot.
We should arrange an NS2 FP matchup sometime in the future. I think that would be quite fun
If you want to Play NS2 on a Competetive level without joining a team, join ensl.org for gather plays.
I had my eyes on NS2 before, but this finally convinced me to buy it. Holy shit it's tons of fun. Even losing is intense.
the problem I have in this game is everything moves too fast for me, combat is a little too confusing as I jump around trying to kill people.
The Alien side looks like it had a pretty big learning curve in comparison to the marines which I feel could harm the balance of the game.
As I just said in the game I just played, it certainly does. Being a marine is simply a lot easier to get the hang because it is just you know, FPS. Though, if the commander is bad..you're doomed, which is unfortunate because I feel like no one wants to play commander, and if anyone does...they're bad, usually, it seems.
I love putting hydras on the wall ontop of doors, caring for them, making sure they grow to maturity, then watch them anally rape anyone who walks through there.
Funny enough, aliens are alot easier to play imo because they don't need as much coordination as the rines and most newbies tend to pick marines because they got guns.
Commander video
Actually really tempted to buy this after these videos, gotta find some money cos it looks fantastic.
