Before anyone says it, this is popular because A. People like it and B. It's the zombie game/mod that every zombie game should have been: Huge, open world, survivalist, realistic.

Well people don't generally get murdered 4 million times in a paradise

2.1 billion zombies being killed would imply that you emptied several contries' combined populations
however, pvp kills more people (zombies are weak as hell)

I just got confused because they say "zombie free" but then go on to say a figure of pvp kills not pve kills

Your point A means people like it because people like it.

Anyway, DayZ is tons of fun, although right now I'm taking a break from it. Play some other more general games before heading back into that thing again.

I want a dayz without the zombies.

Just a bunch of players in a limited environment with scarce supplies. No restrictions.
    Now that would be interesting.

It makes perfect sense because the players that play (from what I have heard) are either elitist assholes who instead of help other people just kill them for no reason, or they are the new players that can't progress because of said elitist assholes.

You would think this would cause other players to help each other but in reality someone groups with a couple friends, hoards all the supplies and kills anyone trying to get to it.

That does actually seem quite interesting. You would need a vast amount of players or else it would get a bit boring.

I'd love their movement and detection to be somehow managable.

For instance hitting them with a hatchet is a gamble. Sometimes they can't hurt you at all, sometimes you can straight up kill 5 zeds one after another, sometimes you get hit without any animation showing at all.

    Edited:

It would take out much atmosphere, for instance why is the world empty, also people would just start to figure out basic scavenging routes and everything would be pretty boring. Just look how long it takes sometimes to meet someone if you are not in the majoir cities.

The zeds break up the "run from a to b" routine.

I would've bought Arma II during the Summer sale, but I've heard a lot of shitty stories about DayZ from my friends, where they've constantly been robbed, killed, and died from bugs that need to be worked out. My one friend was walking down stairs in a barn, and both his legs broke for no reason.

Instead, I got players. A lot of them, most of which want to murder your face. I really wish DayZ was more about the zombies than it was about players killing other players for loot or killing players out of boredom.

That's pretty much what it is now.

After playing for about an hour of learning the game, the zombies are no longer a threat.

It's too bad that the singleplayer version was put down.

Isolation and immersion is completely ruined by jerks roaming the country side in UAZ's and shooting everything that's not grey.

It would kind of defeat the point though.... I was always under the impression it was more about the human and social impacts a zombie apocalypse would have. Whether people would band together or pray on the weak.

All I want from DayZ is optimisation improvements. I get about 40-50fps in Arma2, but on a DayZ server I get 10fps in the cities, maybe 18-25 otherwise.

This exists, it's called Wasteland and it's been out as a mission hosted by Tonic on ArmA2: Combined Ops for longer than DayZ exists.

The problem with that is that the mod's quality is directly effected by how good the community is.
My experiences with the community over the past month or so have rarely been good ones so that's one problem.

Another problem is that contrary to what you say, the zombies don't impact anything. They're such a non-threat people just kill each other on sight because it's the only thing to do.

I broke my legs walking out of an outhouse. Since there's no way to suicide, I tried to feed myself to the zombies, but for some reason they all completely ignored me. I think I beat the game?

I got it 2 days ago and I play on my own on the packed servers.

I died like twice but now I am up north near the air strip with everything there is to get. Now I don't know what to do really I thought it was going to be more of a challenge.

First month of DayZ was great, I didn't get shot on sight by strangers and there were still vehicles around.

Many party busses were around and not many people knew about NWAF.

Imo the game kinda ruined itself after Bandit skins got removed. It is now impossible to team up with strangers.

I realize it's an alpha, which is why I barely play it anymore. Might as well wait until it's at least in beta, so it's less buggy. Plus it gets boring being outright murdered by any human I meet or getting killed by random bugs.

    no it wouldnt
Zombies are fucking boring. The fun in Dayz was the interaction between players clinging for supplies and survival and the pure lack of trust.
The zombies are just annoying at this point. Sneaking past them is boring as hell, I don't want to have to grovel on the ground for 45 minutes because I accidentally came upon a group of zombies.

Yes I am such a magnificent fucking twat for voicing my opinion.
